WHO CREATED IT?
Bishop Maurice de Sully started the construction in 1163 Completed in 1272 (some say 1345), partly
because design was enlarged during construction
French Revolution Many of the cathedral’s sculptures were removed
or demolished Notre Dame was restored during the late 19th
century
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Being a cathedral, it is used for masses
Notre Dame offers free tours in multiple languages
Has been owned by the French Government since the early 20th century
WHERE IS IT LOCATED?
Notre Dame is located on the Ile de la Cité (larger island on the Seine River) Notre
