Renewable resources are sustainable because they are replenis-hed by the environment over relatively short periods of time. Ex-amples are:

• oxygen• fresh water• solar energy• animals &plants

Sustainability takes care of: • natural environment • economic viability • social equity

non-renewable energy:• gas• oil• coal• nuclear energy

Managed in a sustainable way, renewable resources can be used as much as we need them. The example shows the difference of ma-naging cattle in a not sustainable and a sustainable way. The first picture shows a herd of cattle. If too many individuals of the herd are taken out, there is no chance for them to replenish. The management of the herd in picture two is not sustainable. In the third picture there are still enough individuals left for the herd to recover. The management of the herd in picture three is sustainable:
