Aim

Support developing countries and emerging economies in implementing ambitious NAMAs. NAMAs can function as an important vehicle to implement nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

Who we are

• A multi-donor fund

• Jointly established by Germany (BMU) and UK (BEIS) in 2013

• Denmark (EFKM, MFA) and the European Commission joined in 2015 as additional donors

• Total funding made available through the NAMA Facility since its inception: approx. EUR 347 million

• Secretariat (Technical Support Unit) based in Berlin

What we support

• NAMA Support Projects (NSP) as the most ambitious part of the NAMA. NSPs are selected in annual Calls for NSPs

• Provide funding for a combination of financial andtechnical measures

• Key data of suitable NSPs: 3-5 years implementation period, NF funding budget of EUR 5-20 million

• There is no regional or sectoral focus• In four Calls, 20 NSPs have been pre-selected

NAMA Support Project - Thailand Rice (4th Call)

• Aim: Transform the rice production in Thailand

• Technical assistance and training

• Initial capitalization of a revolving fund to support a range of services intended to reduce GHG emissions

• Policy formulation and supporting measures promoting low-emission production on national political level

• Target: 100,000 farmers and 420 service providers in six focus provinces in the Central Plains of Thailand

• Duration: 5 years (2018-2023)

• Volume: 14.9 million (TC: 6.5 million, FC: 8.4 million)

• Mitigation potential: 1.7 MtCO2e over 5 years

• Implementing agencies: GIZ Thailand, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperation (BAAC)

• Responsible ministries: Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC)
