GEOGRAPHYGEOGRAPHY
The Namakwa District stretches from Alexanderbay in the northwest to Sutherland and Fraserburg in the south and southeast. It is shares its borders with Namibia and the Atlantic Ocean.
Demographic profile
A population of approximately 110 000 people
An average density of roughly two persons per square kilometer
Afrikaans is the language of choice (English, Nama and Xhosa are spoken to a lesser extent)
Launching of Namda
Namda was officially launched on the 22nd October 2004 by the Premier of the Northern Cape Province (Ms E. D. Peters)
Donation from NDFT
The Namaqualand Diamond Fund Trust (NDFT) donated R1Om to the Namaqualand Development Agency (NAMDA). The cheque was handed over during the launching function of 22 October 2004

Retrenchment of staff
The full staff had been retrenched in April 2010 due to the following:The vast majority of loaners could not repay loans Promised funding from the province for Small Mining development did not arriveThe senior staff received reduced salaries and some benefits were not paid anymore like full transport allowances, no food and accommodation allowances
Retrenchment of staff
The sitting allowances of Trustees were reduced and most of the time not paid
Appointment as Service Provider for the Tourism Hub were not honoured
The above resulted in a situation where salaries could not be paid anymore and the staff had been retrenched at the end of April 2010
