Important Student Information
Dress Expectations
Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing to school that
does not disrupt the learning environment. Students are PROHIB-
ITED from wearing any clothing that is gang related apparel, cloth-
ing or jewelry promoting items that are illegal for minors or may
be offensive to others. General guidelines are as follows: Females
should not wear halter tops, and shirts that do not cover midriffs.
Males should not have visible undergarments, bandanas or head
covering unless for religious purposes. Ultimately, it is up to the
administration to deem what is appropriate to maintain a safe
and orderly school environment.
Hallway Expectations
Students are expected to be in class, not in the halls. Therefore,
the first and last 20 minutes of class, no passes will be issued for
students to leave class unless it is an emergency. When in the
halls, students are expected to be quiet so other learning can take
place.
End of Day/Early Release Procedure
Students should be out of the building no later than 10 minutes
after their last class or dismissal of the school day (Unless under
the supervision of a sponsor or coach).
Parking Permits
Parking permits are issued to juniors and seniors. Students are
only allowed to park in the WEST lot and by permit only. Unau-
thorized parking will result in cars being ticketed and/or towed.
Loitering in School Parking Lots
Students are NOT permitted to loiter in any of East High parking
lots or sit in cars at any point in the school day.

EAST HIGH RE-ASSESSMENT POLICY
All courses will offer 2 or more opportunities to show proficien-
cy on each topic throughout the unit.
The opportunity for a re-assessment may only be
given if a student has completed the original
assessment on the original date scheduled with the
exceptions of 1) excused absences and 2) prior arrangements
with the individual teacher.
If other opportunities to show proficiency exist later in the unit,
the most appropriate plan for additional attempts is at the
teacher’s discretion.
After the unit is completed, re-assessments may be
taken only after the student has completed assigned practice.

1. All doors to the main building will be locked at 8:15am each
morning for building security. Students will use the North
entrance after 8:15am to enter the building.
2. Under our attendance policy, once a student reaches a total
of 15 unexcused absences that student will be ineligible to attend
or participate in extracurricular activities such as athletic
events, dances, shows, or concerts. The unexcused absences will
reset at the beginning of each grading period.
3. In order for a student’s absence to be excused, the
Attendance Office must be notified as soon as possible. The list
of excused absences is in the DMPS District Attendance Policy.
4. Students will serve a 20 minute detention after a total of 10
tardies are accumulated and for every tardy after 10 .
Detentions are Tuesday’s and Thursday’s after school in the
Media Center (Library), unless directed otherwise. Failure to
complete a detention for tardies will result in a level 2 referral. In
-school detention could be assigned for habitual offend-
ers. Students who have more than one hour of accumulated de-
tentions for tardies will be ineligible to attend or participate in
extracurricular activities. Tardies will reset each semester.

Excursions
Excursions are offered during EAST Academy in rotating cycles. Students who are proficient in their coursework or have not been chosen for a skill builder or executive function session can opt into one of the many fun excursions being offered. Excursions for each cycle will be listed on a PPT that will be
located under the student tab on
dsmeastacademy.weebly.com Students will sign up for their
excursions prior to the start of each cycle using “Responsive
Scheduling” which will be located in Infinite Campus. Tips on
how to do this will be located in student handbooks or on the
weebly site as well.
**ALL students will either be assigned or have the option of selecting an excursion. You are expected to attend. Lack of
attendance counts toward unexcused absences.

HOW TO CHOOSE MY EXCURSION: 1. Log on to Infinite Campus 2. Click on the Responsive Scheduling Tab during the open 3. window for students to register. **You will not be able to register if a) you have been chosen for a skill-building ses-
sion, b) the window is closed, c) the session is full. 4. Select session you would like to attend. 5. Click Save button. **You will receive notifications about

BE EAST Lesson 8—EAST ACADEMY
What is East Academy? EAST Academy is offered Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week from 10:35-11:10.
ALL students will rotate through cycles throughout the school
year and will include the following options:
Skill-Building: Student who have not show proficiency in specific
topics in their classes may be pre-selected for skill-building during an
EAST Academy cycle.
Excursions: Students who are proficient in their courses or have not
been pre-selected for a skill-building session will chose an excursion to
attend. Options for excursions will be available for students to chose
through PPTs/Infinite Campus.
Quiet Study Hall: This is an opt-in study hall open for those students
who are proficient in all of their courses and welcome a place and
time where they can study or read. No electronics will be allowed
during this study hall time and students must be teacher approved.
“Will” Study Hall: Students will be pre-selected for this study hall.
No electronics will be allowed during this study hall time
Executive Function: This is for students who want time with
counselors, small groups, etc. Students are pre-selected for these
meetings.
Home Base: At the end of each cycle, students will spend four-five
days with their EAST Academy Home Base teacher to complete
various activities.
Why do we have East Academy? EAST Academy aligns with our mis-
sion of “every student, every chance, every day” to enrich all students’
