PRINCIPALS COMMENT
This week once again has been very different to past weeks and this probably is no surprise to you all
Back Into The Swing Of Things
The Year 11 and 12 students have returned to school and are well and truly back into the swing of things At this time
schools are still unable to have assembliesparades this meant the Skype Welcome Back Parade was a different
experience I emphasised that staff were very happy for our senior students to be back at school I imagine that some
parents may be thinking the same way I reminded these students of my mantra for 2020 ldquoMAKE IT HAPPENrdquo I also
stated the importance to settle back into routine as there is still major assessment due shortly for both Year 11 and 12rsquos
I highlighted the need for students to continue to look after their own well-being In this newsletter our Guidance Officer
Mandy Camfferman has included some relevant contacts for families to utilise if required A great article ldquoTips for Healthy
Eyesrdquo has also recently been sent to parents it has some really goods tips and advice for students
Formal
I advised the Year 12 students that the school has changed the eligibility to attend this years Formal The students were
given this information last Tuesday There are currently 2 proposal dates depending on the State Regulations Plan A is
September 11th and Plan B is the 20th November More confirmation information will be provided as we approach these
dates
Celebrating Success
At this time the proposed date for the calendar for our Celebrating Success event is on the 24th August providing once
again that restrictions have been lifted
Hygiene
I once again wish to remind parents and students of all the necessary hygiene requirements Hand sanitiser is available in
every room Please encourage students to wash their hands before and after classes The school classrooms and high
usage areas continue to be cleaned at least 3-4 times throughout the day I wish to acknowledge the great work that our
cleaners continue to do
Students Working From Home
I continue to encourage students working online at home I have seen some of the excellent resources teachers are
providing Please continue to communicate with staff through email or other platforms that we are using I have also
realised we have a number of potential film stars among our staff

John Hattie - Education Expert
I recently read an article by John Hattie who is a world renowned education expert The article related to students
affected by the Christchurch Earthquake where they could do no work at all for a full term He related this to the
Australian scenario
ldquoAustralian students could have a whole term out of the school year without falling significantly behind international
counterpartsrdquo
Coming Information
A number of decisions in relation to the return of school will be made this Friday 15th May I will communicate these
to the community once I have had confirmation

Unfortunately because of
this pandemic we had to
cancel our annual school
Cross Country event So
we decided to set up a
virtual challenge
From Wednesday 29th
until Friday 1st May we
saw an amazing number
of participants get
involved in this challenge
As well as students we
also saw masses of staff
hitting walking tracks
across the South Burnett
Participants used the
Strava App to record their running and walking over these three days but if you werent able to use Strava you could
still participate by recording your runs and sending through a photo of the route you had run your house and the
distance travelled to Mr Trace Participants earned points for their house for every kilometre run over the three days
The Strava App allowed the participants to compare times and distances making for a competitive field
Mr Trace recorded all distances on a spreadsheet which he used to calculate points and come up with the champion
house Results were
Mr Trace would like to thank students and staff for getting involved It was great to see this as a conversation starter
and reason to get away from our computer screens and be physically active during these difficult times
Wide Bay School Sport have also thrown down the challenge for an ISO Cross Country This is to find the fastest School
in the Wide Bay region and another excuse to get out and go for a run Note this is not a selection trial and
nominations must be completed over your age groups distance
If you or your student would like further information please email Mr Trace at ntrac0eqeduau

STUDENT SAFTEY ON CAMPUS
Our priority is ensuring the safety of our students and staff We have made modifications to some of our face-to-face
programs This is consistent with current industry practice
Here are some things that students can expect on campus
middot Deep clean and sanitisation of facilities prior to the recommencement of training on-campus
middot Access to soap dispensers water and hand drying facilities
middot On-campus signage promoting good hygiene practises and physical distancing
middot Social gathering locations and areas have been restricted
It is important to note that students will be expected to adhere to physical distancing measures outside of
classrooms ensuring distance between each other teachers and other students who may be on campus
Our teachers are to maintain physical distancing of at least 15 metres between school students on delivery sites In
cases where it is not practical to maintain physical distancing our teachers will ensure that appropriate personal
protective equipment is worn and that the risk has been assessed
ON-CAMPUS FACILITIES
While students are not currently able to borrow physical books from our libraries our library facilities remain open
for students to access computers Our on-campus food services will remain closed until further notice
If you have any questions regarding any of our TAFE at School programs please contact your TAFE at School Team
on phone

STANWELL APPRENTICE INTAKE FOR 2021
Stanwell (Tarong) Power Station will very shortly start advertising to Year 12 students for Traineeship and
Apprenticeship positions to commence at the Power Station in 2021
Stanwell has created an apprentice and trainee webpage that promotes their intake and provides some career
materials for candidates (cover letter resume and interview tips)
Stanwell has also developed an Expression of Interest Form for students By submitting an EOI they will have the
contact details of that particular student so that individual students can be notified when the Power Station
apprentice and trainee intake opens later in June
Any Year 12 student who is interested in applying for these traineeship or apprenticeships in 2021 should visit both
web pages for important details Providing an Expression of Interest (EOI) is very important so Stanwell can send
information about positions available directly to students so that they can stay up to date with application details and
key dates If any year 12 students have any questions regarding the process they can see Mr Snow in C Block for
details

TUCKSHOP
We are working towards a system where students and families order tuckshop either online or by ordering and prepaying before school starts
We are yet to finalise daily timelines for these services but both systems are now operating At the moment orders must be in before 900 am In the future we may move this to an earlier time Many families are enjoying the convenience of ordering and paying via our online app called Qkr This is a safe and secure app run by MasterCard It can be downloaded onto all devices Please see instructions below
For those who do not wish to use online ordering students are able to order and pay for their lunch prior to school commencing each day They simply go to the tuckshop and order when they arrive at school All orders must be in prior to the bell going for Form Students may pay via cash or EFTPOS
This system has great benefits to students as we are able to guarantee students their favourite lunch and avoid a long wait in the tuckshop queue
If you have any questions please dont hesitate to contact the school on 41716444

This system has great benefits to students as we are able to guarantee students their favourite lunch and avoid a long wait in the tuckshop queue

CHAPPY CORNER - Miss Tracy
I have had some great conversations with students and parents over the last couple of
weeks I have caught up with some students while walking around the oval and others
through emails to just check-in It has been fantastic to hear from some of our school
community as ldquowe are all in this togetherrdquo Sometimes you may need to give yourself a
break and make a cuppa Please remember if you need to talk just give me a call - I am
always happy to listen I am available on Tuesdayrsquos and Wednesdayrsquos at school Our
Guidance Officer is also at Student Services and available for appointments I have some ideas to lighten up your day
Be Intentionally Aware Of Your Surroundings
By being fully in the moment and making observations you can really appreciate the greatness of the day and feel
more pep and energy Intentional awareness is imperative for anyone trying to brighten their day says Chicago
based therapist Chelsea Hudson LCPC Intentional awareness entails paying attention on purpose to certain mood
enhancing elements Take note of the weather Is the sun shining If it is stand facing the sun with your eyes closed for
a few minutes and feel the sunrsquos rays radiating warmth on your skin she suggests
Smell Some Flowers
According to experts being around flowers in your home or at work can lower levels of
stress and depression Certified holistic health coach and personal trainer Jen Bruno with
JB Fitness and Nutrition recommended over email with Bustle the inclusion of nature in
boosting wellbeing Purchase some flowers to keep around each day or simply walk past a
flower shop or garden in a park and smell the perfume Enjoying the scent and scenery can
make us relaxed and happier which will lead to a more positive outlook on the day
Lets Spread a Ray of Sunshine Cr Potter and Cr Duffrsquos have an initiative where they want the South Burnett to turn yellow hellip to spread ldquoa ray of
sunshinerdquo throughout the region ldquoWe want people and businesses to come on board like they did with Pinking Up
The South Burnettrdquo Cr Duff said
The pair thought it might also be a good way to keep children bored at home busy
Children at home at this time could do drawings colour-ins paintings take photographs hellip
A Facebook page Ray of Sunshine South Burnett has been set up where people can upload photos of their yellow
celebrations
ldquoWe want to put some smiles back on to peoplersquos facesrdquo Cr Duff said
ldquoThe theme is yellow we want people to decorate their homes inside and out Post pictures songs or anything to do with Sunshine Hope and Happiness ldquo
Chappy Challenge
My challenge to you this week is to get involved in the
South Burnett Council initiative Letrsquos spread some
happiness and hope around our community Maybe
while you are smelling the flowers see if you can find
some yellow ones and take a photo of them When you
are in that moment and feel the sun on your face take
a photo of your surrounds with the sun in the
background Maybe you could dress in yellow and feel
your mood change I would love for you to send me
some photos to tbish58eqeduau

middot Access to soap dispensers water and hand drying facilities
middot On-campus signage promoting good hygiene practises and physical distancing
