    THE MIS ORGANIZATION:-

    The MIS function in businesses can beorganized in several ways. In many firms, the

    MIS is organized in a centralized manner.MIS is the most essential department in theorganization.

    If your MIS people are strong, then thecompany is also strong.

    MIS MANAGEMENT:-

    At the top of the computer hierarchy in manyorganizations are the vice president or director of information systems and the data processing

    director .

    The vice president or director of the informationsystem is often referred to as the chief information officer (CIO).

    THE CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER (CIO):-

    The CIO manages the implementation of theuseful technology to increase informationaccessibility and integrated systems

    management.Information technology and its systemshave become so important that the CIO hascome to be viewed in many organizations asthe key contributor informulating strategic goals for anorganization.

    Contributes to strategic planning for firm and ISfunctions

    ROLE OF THE CIO:-

    The role of CIO varies among organizations. Infirm in which transaction processing is the entireMIS effort, the CIO may be just a glorified data

    processing manager.In firm that view information systems as acompetitive weapon, the CIO position will

    probably be at a vice presidential level.

    P LANNING AND MIS:-

    One of the most critical activities performed by the CIOis planning.In many industries, MIS has emerged as a keycompetitive weapon. For example, consumers oftendifferentiate firms in the banking, insurance, andfinancial services industries based on the convenience of their system.The spending level on MIS-related tasks is growing, thusincreasing the importance of planning expenditurescarefully. Although the level of spending has increased,the ease in cost justifying many MIS related purchaseshas not.

    STRATEGIC CHALLENGES AND MIS:-

    Strategic planning is a top level managementactivity in which the long range course for andorganization or strategic business unit is charted.

    Strategic planning is where all other planningefforts in organization start. Most executives seeit as highly important company states.According to Daniel Gray, a CEO at onediversified manufacturing company states: Icant conceive of doing business without astrategy and a plan.
