Greetings to all!

I would like to welcome each and everyone to the first issue of NassTalk for 2014.

As I look back at 2013, I cannot begin to express how stronger a family each and everyone in Nass has become.

In this issue, we have just the thing for the marine lovers. Dona Marine talks about the efficient and effective marine shipping.

And we could not have been more proud about STBLOP and their achievement over the EPC project. Read all about it in on page 9.

Also highlighted in this issue are our achievements across the various departments in NASS, GCCC, website and apps launches, and so much more.

With each coming issue, we have become more successful and determined to our goals. I will always be grateful for everyone’s efforts.

Once again, I would like to thank each and everyone for being a part of our ever growing organization.

New Fleet for Road WorksA new fleet of road construction equipments was purchased by Nass Asphalt. Mr. Khalid Turk, CEO of Turk Heavy Transport handed over new asphalt rollers and pavers to Mr. Gerard Hutton, General Manager of Nass Asphalt.

Infra Oman 2013Nass Group L.L.C. and Sarens Nass Middle East participated in the business meet and expo, “Infra Oman 2013”. With the aim of bringing together officials, and leading local and international businesses under one roof, Infra Oman 2013 has successfully provided companies with the opportunities to reach out to their targets in Oman’s building and construction industry. This three day exhibition hosted companies that majorly dealt with construction requirements, green and future buildings, hotel and tourism projects, infrastructure projects and many more.The expo has been a true learning experience for investors and contractors to learn more on a range of construction projects that lie at the heart of the Sultanate from infrastructure to housing and from tourism to health care.

Fully Operational!Seventeen units of Terex cranes for the SNME Aramco Project are now fully operational. The ISO Accreditions of SNME have been renewed and is now valid until January 2016.

Health Check Anybody?Delmon Readymix and Delmon Precast held a combined medical camp and blood donation drive at their Salmabad premises. The event was a tremendous success and was organised by the Lions Club of Riffa, assisted by Finance Manager, Mr. Rosh Paulose and the supervisory team, with Al Hilal Hospital, Ibn Al Nafeas Hospital and Salmaniya Hospital all providing their medical support. A total of 240 people attended the medical camp and over 60 donations of blood were made.

Better Safe than SorryNass Contracting conducted the ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board) Health & Safety Passport Course for staff and engineers from the Nass Asphalt Division. It is necessary for each and every individual to be aware of the safety requirements within any organisation.The 2-day Course was conducted by Mr. Abdulnabi Marhoon, HSE Manager of Nass Contracting and consisted of sessions on safe behaviour at work, making the workplace a safer place, safe systems of work and, safety problems and their solutions.

Think Pink Nass Marine donated four sets of white overalls

that were dyed pink for the Think Pink fund raising event, which was held at the Royal Golf Club on 9th Oct, 2013.

This was the eighth annual charity Think Pink, which was part of the Kingdom’s breast cancer awareness month.

The ladies in the pink overalls donated by Nass Marine won the grand prize for the “Best Dressed Cart”.

GULF CITY cleaning company

You For BahrainThe ‘You For Bahrain’ campaign organised by GCCC, Manama

Municipality and Malabar Gold and Diamonds was a huge success when it saw a large number of participation from Indian School, Asian School, New Millennium School, Pakistan School, Sacred heart School and St. Christopher’s School.

This event turned out to be the biggest public awareness cleanup campaign with over 300 volunteers supporting the clean city concept which took place at three different parts of Bahrain: Al Fateh Beach, Salmaniya Park and Water Park.

GCCC HonouredMuharraq Municipality honoured GCCC and four of its staff members for their outstanding performance in serving the environment and the people of Muharraq. Amongst the staff honored were: Ahmed Sanad, Riyadh Juma, Hassan Ahmed and Hesham Alhaddad.

China Arab MeetAt the meet, His Majesty underlined Bahrain’s keenness to boost bilateral relations between the two countries. This will further maintain security and stability. The achievements made in the economic and trade sectors prove the kingdom’s growth and its initiative to further strengthen trade in the region. This will also attract more investments and financial institutions to Bahrain.

GCCC Passes the AuditGCCC cleared both the ISO and OHSAS Audit for the provision of cleaning and waste management services in Bahrain to domestic, industrial and commercial customers. Gulf City Cleaning Company WLL was found to be in accordance with the requirements of the management system standards.

Helping Those in NeedNass Scafform had the opportunity of visiting the Kidane orphanage in Ethiopia. During the visit, they donated wheelchairs, washing machines and medical supplies to the orphanage. The smiles and happiness they received from the orphanage will definitely be one to cherish.

Nass Scafform Being the Best of the BestQatar Gas PMP project owned by TCJV (Technip/Chiyoda Joint Venture) has appointed over 30 subcontractors at the project. This ongoing project has been successful since Q3 2012. To motivate the manpower on site, each week a crew from a subcontractor is chosen as the “best crew”. Nass team in Qatar Al Attiyah International Group has proved their best on safety performance and was also, chosen as “Best Crew’ and ‘Subcontractor of the Month’.

For efficient and effective marine shipping

Dona MarineA tugboat, being powerful and strongly built, can transport huge

quantities of material.Dona Marine, part of Nass, was formed in the year 2008 to provide

marine shipping for the transport of limestone and gabbro crushed aggregates from quarries that are located in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE to the Nass Group’s dedicated marine aggregates jetty in Hidd, Bahrain. They are considered to be the fastest, most reliable and consistent in the marine industry in Bahrain.

Based at Delmon Ready Mix’s office in Salmabad, Dona Marine operates tugs and barges. Each may have a carrying capacity of up to 26,000 tonnes.

Annually, Dona Marine transports up to one million tonnes of bulk raw materials on behalf of associate companies for use within ready-mixed concrete, precast, asphalt and construction activities.

Supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated marine professionals, the Company operates to the highest standards of marine safety and environmental pollution control. Harrier in Bahrain port

Feature Project NASSTALK

Proving its worth for better resource conservation and environment protection

Engineering Project Procurement Management of Offsites and Utilities for STBLOP, Saudi Arabia is a three-year project spanned over the years 2010-2014. A mutual project between Nass Mechanical Contracting and Abdulla Nass and Partners Co., this will treat 40,000 tonnes of used lube oil per year. The process for re-refining the used lube oil comprises of Dewatering, Gas Stripping, Vacuum Distillation, Finishing Distillate Treatment and Fractionations.

During the three years of the project, the following have been taken care of and handled with attention to detail and perfection:

• All mechanical works for process and utility units including supply, fabrication and erection of process equipment was carried out - 1,567MT.

• The engineering, design and material procurement.

• Supply, fabrication and erection of steel structure for process towers and other utility areas. The same for piping that included interconnection, tie-ins, and underground piping - 1,100MT

• Making of three vacuum fractionation column. The columns were hydro tested after which heating coils were installed and insulated with thermal ceramics. Total Weight- 105 MT

• Supply and fabrication of 45 storage tanks totally weighing 650MT. The tanks once fabricated were erected at the site where blasting, painting, testing of the tanks and commissioning are being done.

• Erection of Thin Film Evaporator, boiler, chimney, fired heaters, cooling towers, heat exchanger, steel structures for the process unit, steel structures for pipe racks and various types of pumps.

R. RangarajanThe new finance manager of Sarens Nass Middle East WLL. Mr. R. Rangarajan , is a Chartered and Cost Accountant. He has more than 25 years experience in Finance and Accounts function and has worked in the automobile, consumer electronics and construction products industry.

Hussam KamelHussam Kamel is appointed as a new Senior Sales Manager at the SNME’s Saudi branch. A German national, he graduated from University of Dsseldorf (Engineering), Germany majoring in Electronics & Communication. In his 17 years of professional career, he has worked with major Multinational companies like Siemens and Madaus.

Mashkoor AlamThe newly appointed QA/QC Manager, Mr. Mashkoor Alam who is stationed at Sarens Nass Bahrain Head office has Mastered in Statistics, from Karachi University. He is a Certified Lead Auditor for ISO and OHSAS certifications. He joins the Nass family with 14 years of experience in QEHS system development and implementation in Industries.

David John Du BruynA Mechanical Engineer from South Africa, David John Du Bruyn joined SNME’s team as the Regional Maintenance Manager. He brings along with him 25 years of hardcore experience in Heavy Equipment industry.

Nationality: BritishExpertise: Procurement/ Supply Chain Specialist with 30 years of experience in all aspects of Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics in the Civil Engineering, Building, Petrochemical and Utilities Industry. I’m responsible for the entire procurement and logistics of Nass Group, and in charge of group marketing and work winning function.Hobbies: Football and Rugby


US Appreciation for Allied TeamA proud Nass staff, Peter Sebastian was honored by the Captain of The

US Navy Ship during his designated duty at the US Navy Site. Working for Allied Car Rental as a chauffeur, Peter was humbled and appreciated for his hard work, dedication and enthusiasm for the Navy job that he was assigned to do.

Tell us about the marine industry in Bahrain and Nass Marine’s contribution to it.

The competition within Bahrain for New Build Barges and Barge/Vessel repairs is very limited. ASRY and BASREC target big ocean-going vessels. We on the other hand, cater for vessels of up to 500 tonnes for surveys and repairs.

Within Nass Marine, we have the space to increase our working area from 3 bays to 6 bays. Our hope is to continue building new barges and provide an additional area to repair and service small to medium vessels with a fast turnaround.

At present, we are focused mainly on small to medium repairs on barges, vessels and yachts.

What has been Nass Marine’s greatest achievement?According to me, our greatest achievement is providing quality low

cost repair and new build solution with a fast turnaround time. Nass Marine has traditionally built barges for companies with whom they had a close relationship with, like Bahrain’s Al Jazeerah for one. Nass Marine has built a series of 180- foot crane barges.

What do you hope for Nass Marine to achieve in the coming years?

One of our prime actions is to redevelop the Nass Marine facility in order to create more space. At the moment, we have three slipways. If we transfer the fabrication facility to Nass Mechanical, this will grant us more space for repairs.

Adding to that, we intend to open repairs for small floating craft vessels at the redesigned yard, which will be reconfigured at a cost of approximately $200,000 on the site of the existing six-year-old facility.

What is the future plans for the company?The future is more about streamlining the business. We aim to

streamline the business in order to focus on New Build(30%) and Repairs(70%). All other fabrication activities not

associated to new build and repairs will be outsourced.

The Nass Group Cup held on 15th of November, 2013 was a one whole day of racing sponsored in the name of Late Abdulla Ahmed Nass.

Nass Cup day was sponsored by Nass Group, Nass Corporation, Blue Dawn, Sarens Nass, Nass Commercial, Gulf City cleaning Company and Applied Science University.

Erebus, owned by Hadi Ebrahim Al Afoo, trained by Mohammed Hassan and ridden by Alberto Sanaa was the winner of the Nass Group Cup when it beat Dream Vale by two-and-half-a-length. The Nass Group Cup is sponsored by Late Abdulla Ahmed Nass. The cup was for imported horses and carried a cash prize of BD3,000.

Beautiful breeze, owned by Munar Jaffar AlOmran, trained by Jaffar Marzooq and ridden by Gerald Avranche won the Blue Dawn Cup, an open event that carried a cash prize of BD2000.

Methary, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and ridden by Ali Al Saffar won the Gulf City Cup for locally bred horses that carried a cash prize of BD1000.

Mujazif owned by Faras Sami Hashem Al Meshqab, trained by Mohammed Khamis and ridden by Kevin Derora beat Kyoma Tatami by two lengths to win the Nass Commercial Cup that carried a cash prize of BD1000.

Lazameh, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and ridden by Ali Al Saffar claimed the Nass Corporation Cup for locally bred horses that carried a cash prize of BD1000.
