nasscom emerge 50 - the league of ten
DESCRIPTION
We started this initiative only a year back and are indeed happy to see the enthusiasm it has generated amongst the participants. It only reinforces our belief in the power of new ideas and the potential of emerging/ start-up companies. It is observed that software products are becoming increasingly popular in the startup community with Cloud/SaaS enabled models making in-roads. Education & Training, Artificial Intelligence & Automation, Recruitment, Talent & HR, Mobile & Telecom, Social Media & Gaming are some of the key focus areas for product start-ups. In terms of services start ups, Mobile & Telecom, BPO/KPO, as well as web development are the key focus areas. Other verticals such as Healthcare and Pharma are also catching up. Angel investors continue to be a major source of funding for the start-ups, followed by self-funding and VC funding.TRANSCRIPT

We started this initiative only a year back and are indeed happy to see the enthusiasm it has generated amongst the participants. It only reinforces our belief in the power of new ideas and the potential of emerging/ start-up companies. It was also heartening to see a significant
participation from the Tier 2 & 3 cities in five categories: Services, Products, Growth, Markets and Start-ups. The three cities in South – Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad cumulatively recorded 44 per cent of the applications while Mumbai & NCR not to be left far behind, chalked a healthy 22 per cent and 19 per cent respectively. Our assessment was based on a number of parameters, including financials, growth, market differentiators, customers, market visibility and distribution. The jury, met the shortlisted companies in-person at New Delhi, Pune and Bengaluru, to arrive at the list of Top 10 companies.
It was observed that software products are becoming increasingly popular in the start-up community with Cloud/SaaS enabled models making in-roads. Angel investors continue to be a major source of funding for the start-ups, followed by self-funding and VC funding.
We hope you have a great time, as much as we did in going through some of the great works that our emerging companies are doing. Once again, our heartiest congratulations to all the companies for making a mark and being a role model for others to emulate. For those who did not make it, please continue doing the good work and take consolation in the fact, that this country needs hundreds and thousands of you to take this industry to the next level of growth and excellence. 50 is just a number. It could very well have been 100 !
Warm regards,
It was also heartening to see a significant participation from the Tier 2 & 3 cities in five categories: Services, Products, Growth, Markets and Start-ups...
