DENVER BRONCOS HEAD COACH MIKE SHANAHAN On WR Brandon Marshall topping 100 receptions this season “He played extremely well. He made a number of great plays for us, and I was really impressed by his maturity. He will continue to grow on the football field and as a person, and he will be one of our top guys coming back next year.” Ending the year on a positive note “It has been a tough year and you always like to end it on a positive note. We kept their team in check for most of the game and you obviously have to give credit to their offense for making plays in the fourth quarter. It’s always nice to finish the season off with a win.” On the defensive performance in overtime “Anytime you give up plays and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter it’s going to cost you. Then, to go into overtime and to get the turnover we did…the wind was a little stronger than people thought. Regardless of if we won the toss, we kind of wanted to kick off anyhow.” On RB Travis Henry having no carries tonight “He’s just not back to full speed yet. He’s better than he was but he needs to get back into football shape. Anytime you have the type of injury that he had it takes a while to get back to full strength.” Did he caution the players to be safe during the holiday week? “We have grown men on this team and people should be smart enough to understand what happened last year. These players understand what happened, and they know how to handle themselves and we’ll leave it at that.” On the evaluation process at season’s end “We’ll do the same thing that we do every year. We’ll have a chance to take a look at the offense and defense and special teams and see how everyone has done. We’ll put our players in a pecking order and look at our players’ contracts. We have a little more time off than we would want so we have plenty of time to do that.” On this season being harder than 1999 (Broncos last losing season) “We had a chance this year for a lot of players to get some experience, so that’s a positive. We’ll go back and try to put a good football team together. I think we have one heck of a quarterback for the future, and I think that was evident in the way he played this year. With a lot of guys going down this year, he found a way to put points on the board. He’s played pretty consistently and guys stepped up and played at the level that they needed to play in the National Football League.” On WR Rod Smith “I talked to Rod about where he was at, and I know he just shared that with you, and that was my suggestion. So, we’ll just have to wait and see. I think everybody knows what Rod Smith has meant to this organization. Luckily, we were able to get him the ball. He got four of five before half time and then I told him I was going to try to get him the rest.” On What He Will Be Working On In the Offseason “I think myself, Brandon [Marshall] and Tony [Scheffler] are going to go somewhere on the east coast and just work on timing and things like that. You know that when you come into Denver, it’s always a tough place to play, whether it’s the noise or the altitude. I talked to our team about how we have the chance to redeem ourselves; the legacy is not written for this team yet. That is for you guys to write. The important thing is that all those guys over there in the locker room can look each other in the eye and know that they did all they could to win this game. The moral of the story is just to not turn over the football. It is one of the things that needs to be looked at.” On His Team “I thought this group battled hard all year long. I look at those as plays you have to make. You have to hold the ball out over the pylon. You have to make the routine catches and the routine throws. I was told that the pylon knocked the ball out of his [Chester Taylor’s] hand. If that was the case, then it was a touchdown.” On Overcoming the Loss Last Week to the Washington Redskins “We didn’t linger on that too long. I think we moved on rapidly. We had the Christmas Holiday, and then the guys came back knowing that they still had a chance.” On RB Adrian Peterson Not Starting “We didn’t practice that way. He was just late for a bus. But, the first drive wasn’t too bad with Chester Taylor; he is a very good professional.” On Awaiting a Washington Redskin Loss “I got one update at halftime and that was the last time I really knew anything. I didn’t really want to know, because you have to take care of your own business. We had to do our part here.” On Defensive Performance “I thought they were good early. They forced three and outs on the first couple of drives, and then they gave up a couple of good drives. [Denver] ran the ball a little better than we would have liked.”


MINNESOTA VIKINGS PLAYERS QB TARVARIS JACKSON On his overtime fumble “It was a quick drop. I just have to get rid of the ball faster. I thought I had a guy open and was waiting for him to get open. He didn’t and the defense got to me.” On not giving up “It just shows we aren’t going to quit. It shows our character and the type of guys on our team. We still wanted to go out there and win. Regardless of if [Washington] won or loss, we wanted to win. We think we’re better than 8-8.” On the last two losses “We beat ourselves on the last two games. We need to take better care of the ball.” On the start of the offseason “Guys are going to work hard to improve after this year. There are a lot of things I have to get better at.” On WR Troy Williamson’s dropped pass “I didn’t want to say much to him. I knew a lot of guys were talking to him. What I did say was positive. I was playing with him on the sideline, but I let him know I would come back to him. I wasn’t mad at him. Washington is a good team and Denver is a good team. Tarvaris did a good job today. Late in the season we missed our chances. Washington was a game we needed to win. We had a tough start, then we kind of figured it out in November into December. We stalled a lot towards the end of the game. We have to keep it up through the middle part of the game. In the first half I had a good feel for the offensive line and defense. I don’t know why I didn’t get many touches in the second.”

* - BRONCOS IN OVERTIME: The Broncos made their fourth overtime appearance of the year today (2-2 record), a total that ties with their 1985 campaign for the most in a season in club history… Denver’s four overtime games in 2007 led the NFL, and its six overtime appearances in the last two seasons are the most in the league… Following their win, the Broncos’ all-time overtime record stands at 22-15-2 (11-6-1 home, 11-9-1 away) with the club posting a 9-6 record in those games under Mike Shanahan (6-3 home, 3-3 away).
