NATURAL RESOURCES MAPPING Dr.V.Thirukumaran M.Sc., M.Tech., Ph.D. Department of Geology, Government Arts College (Autonomous), Salem-7 Contact : [email protected] INTRODUCTION The natural resources are materials, which living organisms can take from nature for sustaining their life or any components of the natural environment that can be utilized by man to promote his welfare is considered as natural resources. The socio- economic development of any country is based on its natural resources i.e. land resources and water resources. Due to increase in population, these resources are over stretched often leading to resource depletion. There is therefore need to pragmatically explore and manage these delicate resources. The advent of newer technology Remote Sensing and GIS techniques have made the exploration and management effective and can be applied to generate data and information for sustainable development. After more than twenty five years of satellite-based land remote sensing experimentation and development, these technologies reached almost all sectors of Earth science application. The use of remote sensing data and derivative information has ever promise of entering into mainstream of governing at local and regional level. The article enumerates the mapping and management of natural resource using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques. Natural Resources Map Map of world resources show the vast expanse of natural resources available on and in the surface of earth through maps. Abundance of natural resources occur naturally and are hidden in the surface of earth. Natural forest cover of the world, world map of natural vegetation, world map of minerals and seven natural worlds are just of the few famous maps of the natural resources maps.
