Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) is thetransportation wing of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation,which operates a large number of bus lines in the NaviMumbai. NMMT bus serves the entire Navi Mumbai city aswell as Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Badlapur, Taloja,Panvel, Khopoli, Uran & Bhayandar. It is the third largestpublic transport body in Maharashtra after BEST andPMPML.

Origins

Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport is a major transportationservice in Navi Mumbai and also its surrounding areas andcities.

NMMT has been operating in Navi Mumbai since 1996. Andtill now it has crossed many milestones in transportation service as well as passenger service and satisfaction.NMMT believes in better connectivity, clean environment, good behavior and moral values.

NMMT has always welcomed new technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and quality. Workingalongside Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, NMMT has established itself firmly in the region by creatingextensive network or routes.

NMMT AC VOLVO

Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) provides its services tovarious regions which are as follows

Navi Mumbai

The local bus service of the city, which are operated by NMMC.

Mumbai city and suburbs

Predominately BEST provides most of the services in the Mumbai suburbs& city internally as well as the inter city connectivity, NMMT is another

option which can be used by the commuters to travel from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. Currently NMMT runsnormal buses from Navi Mumbai to Gawanpada Mulund (E) and AC Volvo buses from Navi Mumbai toBandra, Dadar & Borivali.

Thane & Bhayandar

In Thane city the routes within the city are limited, but NMMT is the major node to connect the Thane city tothe various parts of Navi Mumbai. Biggest bus stand is at Thane Rly Stn (Cidco), here are more NMMT busesthan TMT which is Thane's local bus service. The inter city connectivity is the main & only service in Thane.To reach Bhayandar from Navi Mumbai, NMMT has to pass through Thane city.

A single long route from Vashi Bus Stn to Bhayandar Rly Stn (W) has been started plying via Thane Rly Stn(Cidco), Ghodbunder Road.

Kalyan-Dombivli-Badlapur

Before the introduction of the KDMT, NMMT was the only mode of connection between Navi Mumbai &Kalyan-Dombivli region. Many routes are active in this area.

Panvel-Kalamboli-Taloja-Khopoli

Predominately this area is hub of MSRTC or commonly known as ST Buses. But NMMT provides services tothis area, as commuters can have an extra option to travel towards Navi Mumbai.

Uran

The further most place in the Mumbai-Thane-Navi Mumbai region, Uran located in Raigad district is thefurthermost place where NMMT provides its services.

Fares

The NMMT have several different options to pay the fares for the bus. The fares vary depending on the type.Paper tickets are valid only for single journey. Commuters also have the option to buy monthly and quarterlypasses. Students gets discounts on monthly and quarterly passes and senior citizen get discount for weekly,fortnightly, monthly and quarterly passes.

Single journey fares are valid only for single trip between any two points. They are issued on paper ticket by the

bus conductor. All fare payments must be made in cash. The fare depends on distance of the destination. Singlejourney fares are not valid for transfers.

For distances greater than 40 km, every next 2 km or its part will be charged Rs.1, and Rs.5 for AC buses.Fare for cargo will be 50% of the fare for an adult, and it will be full fare in AC buses.

• NMMT has made changes in the monthly bus pass rates by keeping the objectives and rules common andconstant for the general public.

• The bus pass structure has been sorted into different types like 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1year.

Note : The bus pass for AC buses is valid for regular buses also. But the regular bus pass is not valid for ACbuses.

Additional facilities:

• 50% fare cut on student's pass.

• Free pass scheme for members of press (non AC buses).

• 75% concession for senior citizens.

• Special school buses available as per demand.

Use of CNG buses: Because of NMMT's inclination towards low pollution, NMMT is planning to convert thefleet into CNG buses. CNG filling station is to be erected on BOT basis giving better facility for NMMT Busesas well as outside vehicles.

Using GPS in buses: By using GPS system in approximately 200 buses in future, NMMT wants to set uppublic information system so that passengers will know when exactly a particular bus will reach their stop withhelp of LED displays etc.

Other goals

Smart cards for pass holders.

Paperless administration.

Development of Rabale Depot : Rabale Depot is located at Sector 6, Airoli. It will be 3rd operationaldepot of NMMT, allowing more routes to be handled.

Development of Nerul Sector 44 bus terminal on public private participation scheme.

Providing passenger transport service in Ambernath, Taloja MIDC & JNPT area.

Physical training to drivers and conductors.
