As of 9th Grade, we are keeping score GPA is important because…. GPA is figured by dividing the total
number of “points” accumulated by the number of credits taken.
For non-weighted classes: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.
After her ninth grade year, Sara has earned 6 credits. Her report card shows:
1st hour: A—4 pts 2nd hour A---4 pts Total Points: 20 3rd hour B----3pts Total Credits: 6 4th hour C----2pts 20/6 = 3.33 GPA 5th hour A----4pts 6th hour B----3 pts
As with any average, the GPA is MUCH easier to influence at the beginning than at the end.
It is very important for students to understand this and work hard during their ninth grade year to build the strongest possible GPA.
EVERY form or application they fill out for the next ten years will ask about their GPA.
Pre-AP and AP classes are weighted as an incentive for enrollment and to determine class rank.
AP classes: A=6 B=5 C=4 D=1 F=0 PreAP: A=5 B=4 C=3 D=1 F=0 All others: A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0
Concurrent college classes are not weighted.
