Please send the completed form to:Part-time Study, Nazarene Theological College, Dene Road, Didsbury, Manchester M20 2GU

Introduction to Biblical Studies

with Dr Sarah Whittle

Tuesday evenings, 7:00 - 9:00, from Sept 24th

Introduction to Biblical Studies is a first-level introduction to Scripture and its interpretation. It provides a great overview of the Bible, its origins, and the means by which our modern translations come to us. It will teach you how to make interpretation, help you engage with and evaluate different approaches to the text, and develop your own integrity through awareness of your preconceptions and those of others.

In this class, you will

Gain an overview of the history of Biblical •interpretation

Have a sense of the range of theological and •philosophical preconceptions underlying Biblical interpretation

Develop a working grasp of the tools of Biblical •criticism

Wrestle with the relative merits of evidence and •arguments used by Biblical scholars

Become aware of the complexities of generating •contemporary applications of Biblical teaching
