    To prevent potential injury or even death, this manual as well as the alert labels attached to the system, provide various safety precautions. It is imperative that all safety instructions in this manual and the alert labels be completely understood prior to performing any operations and/or maintenance work.

    This manual is intended for the operation and maintenance personnel of the Node B system.

    The Safety Instructions gives you safety instructions for the Node B. For other equipment, refer to the relevant manual of the equipment.

    The safety instructions are divided into three categories.

    CAUTIONThis equipment has been tested and found to comply with EN 301489. Its class of conformity is defined in table A30808-X3247-X910-*-7618, which is shipped with each product. This class also corresponds to the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules.These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment.This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the relevant standards referenced in the manual "Guide to Documentation", may cause harmful interference to radio communications.For system installations it is strictly required to choose all installation sites according to national and local requirements concerning construction rules and static load capacities of buildings and roofs.For all sites, in particular in residential areas it is mandatory to observe all respectively applicable electromagnetic field / force (EMF) limits.     CAUTIONSafety instructions on the overall work:

    Before starting the operation and maintenance work, secure a refuge in case of an accident or emergency situation.

    Never wear slippers during work. You can fall down and get injured. Take care not to trip over the cables, parts, or tools during work. Such

    an accident can injure you. Take care so that the sleeves and trouser leg hems of your clothes are

    not caught in equipment and machines during work. A caught sleeve or hem can lead to an injury or accident.

    Do not put liquid, such as water, in the equipment or touch the system with wet hands. Moisture in the system can cause an electrical shock or a trouble. If any liquid comes into contact with the system, immediately turn off the power of the equipment, and ask for repairs.

    Do not rework or disassemble the equipment. An electrical shock, a fire or a failure.

    CAUTIONSafety instructions on high voltage and high current:

    Persons other than the maintenance personnel must not touch the equipment, as it contains components with high voltage or current. An inadvertent contact with any of these components can cause injury, death, and/or damage to the system.

    Be sure to provide grounding where required. A failure to do so can lead to a system failure or electrical shock at the time of lightening.

    When measuring voltage or current, take adequate insulating measures, such as covering or winding the superfluous parts of the measuring terminal and tools with insulating tape. Allowing the measuring terminal to touch another terminal or a short-circuit caused by a tool can lead to an electrical shock or accident.

    When using test equipment and handling tools, be sure to check the voltage (100VAC or 240VAC). Using an electric tool with a wrong voltage can cause fire accident.

    CAUTIONSafety instructions on the whole equipment handling:

    Before installing the equipment or connecting cables, make sure that the power is off. Making installation and connection while the power is on can cause damage to the equipment.

    Before making a cable connection, confirm the electric power supply type and polarity. Connecting a cable with wrong power supply type polarity can cause an electrical shock or accident.

    Drive a screw or bolt tightly. A loose screw or bolt can cause falling, damage or failure to the equipment.

    Before disconnecting cables for a reason such as maintenance, make sure that the power is off. Making disconnection while the power is on can cause damage to the equipment.

    When connecting power cable with the equipment, be sure to use a fuse or breaker, etc. which is appropriate for the power consumption. Overcurrent can cause damage or fire accident of the equipment.

    Before connecting the equipment with another equipment or power cables, make sure that the power is off. Making connection while the power is on can cause damage to the equipment.

    Drive the High-frequency TNC type connector used in the equipment with a torque wrench executing torque control. Without executing torque control, the equipment can be damaged or the signal can be attenuated.

    Use a protection cap for unused terminal.Safety instructions on NB-341 handling:

    NB-341 weighs over 20 kg. Be sure that more than one person carry it with due care. Falling NB-341 can cause damage to the equipment.

    When temporarily placing NB-341 on the ground before installation, place it so that the base end surface of NB-341 faces the ground to prevent damaging the connectors, etc. on the side face.

    CAUTIONSafety instructions on Booster handling:

    Booster weighs over 12 kg. Be sure that more than one person carry Booster with due care. Falling Booster can cause damage to Booster.

    Radiator for heat liberation (radiation fin) of Booster is located where you are able to reach. Although the radiator part is not sharp, be careful not to be injured as it has a fin-like shape.

    Surface temperature of the frame during operation can be very high. Especially, the radiator part can be extremely hot. Take due care as an inadvertent contact with the part can result in a burn.

    Be sure that the input of the transmitting signals falls in the stipulated range. Input over the stipulated range can cause damage to Booster.

    When temporarily placing Booster on the ground before installation, place it so that the screws (M8) of the equipment face the ground to prevent damage from the connectors, etc. on the side face.

    Booster contains the compound semiconductor equipment which includes gallium arsenide (GaAs). To prevent a danger, do not try to burn/crush or to aerify/disintegrate Booster by chemicalizing. When discarding Booster, comply with the related legislation and your corporates waste disposal regulation.

    Safety instructions on whole installation work: The equipment must be installed based on the country or local

    electric safety legislation and its related standard. Height and environmental situation for installation must be well considered, so that the public cannot touch the equipment.

    CAUTIONSafety instructions on wall-mounting:

    Before mounting equipment on wall or post, ensure that the wall/post and bolts have sufficient strength. Mounting equipment on wall or post of insufficient strength can cause falling of wall/post or equipment.

    In cases of absolute necessity to mount on wall or post which strength is not sure, reinforce the wall or support the equipment by utilizing auxiliary equipment. Without such measures, mounting can cause falling of wall/post or equipment.

    PRECAUTIONS FOR NORMAL SYSTEM OPERATION

    The Precautions for Normal System Operation provides precautions against possible troubles that can occur on the system. In order to maintain the normal operation of the system, you have to pay particular attention to each precaution when performing the operation and maintenance work.

    Site Consideration

    To maintain normal system operation, your site must always meet the requirements listed below.

    (1) Temperature and humidityMake sure that the temperature and humidity levels are within the acceptable range: the temperature must be between -33 and 45C and the humidity 15 and 100% at room temperature (25C) (no condensation).

    (2) DustClogged air passage due to dust can affect the operation of the equipment. Clear the dust when necessary.

    (3) VibrationSince the components of the equipment are precision-engineered equipment, make sure that the site is not subject to vibration.

    (4) Heat dissipationProper air circulation is necessary to prevent the temperature from rising inside the system. Make sure that the vents of the equipment are not blocked.

    (5) Static electricityBe sure to connect your wrist strap to the ground such as ESD terminal, etc.

    When Operating The System

    Close the maintenance window while the system is in operation. When opening the maintenance window, be sure to prevent droplet like raindrop or dust coming into the equipment. Droplet in the equipment can cause condensation resulting in short circuit or fire. Also dust or briny air can cause short circuit or fire.

    Do not leave foreign objects such as screws, wires, or pieces of metal, inside the equipment. Such foreign object can damage the equipment or cause a short-circuit, subsequently resulting in a malfunction of the system.

    Wear antistatic shoes during the operation and maintenance work.

    Wear a wrist strap during the operation and maintenance work.

    When Handling The Power Supply

    The equipment is kept in operation with the power supply turned on at all times. Make sure that no personnel except the system administrator is allowed to operate the power switch. If the power supply is interrupted, communications will be disrupted, and the unsaved data will be lost.

    Never turn the power switch of a card on and off except when necessary.

    When Handling Parts

    Never swing a cable. Never wind a cable forcibly. Swinging a cable or winding a cable forcibly can break the cable or damage its connector.

    Never remove the cap from an optical connector, except when attaching the connector. If an optical connector is damaged, a communication error can occur.

    Use tools and cables correctly in accordance with the instructions given in the relevant manuals.

    When Handling Equipment

    Wear gloves (thin cotton gloves) and a wrist strap when connecting/disconnecting a cable to/from the maintenance window, or pressing the reset button not to be electrostatically charged. Static electricity can damage parts in the equipment.

    When Installing Equipment

    Never supply power to the equipment during installation to prevent danger.

    When Repainting Equipment

    Never paint the equipment when the surface of the equipment is wet with morning or evening dew. Start painting when moisture has completely evaporated from the surface.

    Never paint the equipment when the temperature is below 5C or over 30C, or when it is windy, or humid (over 70% (when room temperature is 25C)).

    DISPOSAL OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

    All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local authorities.

    The correct disposal and separate collection of your old appliance will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health. It is a precondition for reuse and recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment.

    Supplementary explanation

    The NB-341, with Radio Network Controller (RNC) and Radio Commander (RC) as higher equipment, communicates with RNC for call control and with RC for monitoring control. The NB-341 is connected with RC via RNC as shown in Fig. 1.

    2. Required Intervals for Placement

    The required interval for the placement of each equipment is described in Table 1.

    Notes:

    1 This is a recommended distance by the manufacturer when using 10D cable. The shortest distance from the equipment that does not affect the connector in bending the cable is 200mm, however the manufacturer recommends 300mm for the safety. This value varies depending on the cable type. 250mm is recommended for the 5D, and 100mm is recommended for the L-type connector.

    2 This is the recommended interval by the manufacturer when the straight-type connector is connected with the Iub feed port.

    Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show the interval for each equipment.

    Here explains the procedure to mount the NB-341 on the wall or a pillar. The procedure can be divided into the following steps.

    (1) Unpacking and Content Verification (NB-341 Only)Unload and unpack the carton, then verify the content.

    (2) Marking (NB-341 Only)Measure and mark the points where the NB-341 is to be mounted.

    (3) Drilling (NB-341 Only)Drill holes on the marked points, and then fix the lead sleeves.

    (4) FixingMount and fix the NB-341 by using anchor bolts.

    1.1 Unload Carton (NB-341 Only)

    (1) Verify the area to place the unloaded carton indicated by the supervisor.

    (2) Before unloading carton in the area, protect the area by covering with material such as vinyl sheets.Moreover, cone off the area to keep the third parties out of the area.

    (3) Unload the cartons in the area. Follow instructions on handling the cartons.

    1.3 Unpack Carton (NB-341 Only)

    (1) Unpack the carton in the unloading area.

    Notes:

    1 Unpack the carton so carefully as not to damage the contents.

    2 Avoid smearing the case number marking and losing the list of contents to insure complete identification of the contents.

    3 Take special care when unpacking fragile items inside the internal container.

    (2) Take the NB-341 out of the carton and lay it in the storage area.

    Notes:

    1 Be sure to carry the NB-341 in pairs, with both hands.

    2 Be sure to grip the handle part of the NB-341 with one hand and support the bottom of it with another. (See Fig.3.)

    3 Never grip the SJ cable connected to the NB-341 instead of the handle part.

    4 Set the protecting cover to the SJ cable to avoid from being injured.

    5 Lay the NB-341 in the direction specified (Refer to "Installation Position").

    (1) Check the materials with the packing and material lists, and mark the items on the list.

    (2) Confirm that all listed items have been marked.

    (3) Should there be any deficiency, make a list of manufactures part numbers and quantities of the missing or damaged items.Include all pertinent information in the material deficiency report.Indication marks for transporters to handle the carton with care during transportation.

    (1) Verify the predetermined storage area adjacent to the installation position.

    3. Drilling (NB-341 Only)

    Detailed procedure is described below.

    3.1 Preparing for Drilling (NB-341 Only)

    (1) Select an appropriate drill bit. (Refer to Table 2.)

    (2) Mark the drill bit for the maximum depth of the bolthole using PVC tape.

    (3) To drill a hole, make a small pilot hole first and drill it gradually larger.

    (4) Select an appropriate size drill bit and secure it in the chuck.

    (5) Place a cover over the equipment, if available, against an influx of dust.

    Notes:

    1 Straight shank drill bits are used mainly for making holes in iron and steel mate.

    2 Concrete drill bits are used mainly for making holes in building walls.

    3 Make sure that the drill bits at least shown in the Annex are available.

    3.2 Drilling Holes (NB-341 Only)

    When drilling the hole, hold the electric drill horizontally on the drilling point.

    (1) When the drill bit hits hard object, break it up with a chisel to save the sharpness of the drill bit.

    Note: When the drill bit becomes overheated, do not cool it with water or oil. Just leave it cool in the air.

    (2) After drilling, remove the debris with a vacuum cleaner.

    (3) Check the diameter and depth of the hole.If the hole is too big or off center, apply lead or mortar to improper dents to the correct diameter.

    4.2 Fix Bracket on Pillar

    (1) Set the Bracket-2 on a pole by using the adjustable bands.

    Installation Procedures (NB-341 and Booster)

    Here explains the procedure to mount the NB-341 and Booster on the wall or a pillar. The procedure can be divided into the following steps.

    (1) Unpacking and Content Verification (NB-341 and Booster)Unload and unpack the carton, then verify the content.

    (2) Marking (NB-341 and Booster)Measure and mark the points where the NB-341 and Booster is to be mounted.

    (3) Drilling (NB-341 and Booster)Drill holes on the marked points, and then fix the lead sleeves.

    (4) FixingMount and fix the NB-341 and Booster by using anchor bolts.

    Moreover, note the following points to handle and move the Booster in unpacking.

    Carrying the BoosterSince the Booster weighs about 12 kg, it can be carried by one person. Be sure to support the bottom of the Booster firmly, and to take particular care not to drop it.The Booster has holes to attach I bolts, so that it also can be carried by using I bolts.

    To lift up the Booster onlyAttach I-bolts to the holes at the top of the Booster. Then lift up the Booster by hanging ropes in the I-bolts.
