PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRA POSTPONE NCAR PARTICIPATION IN AMTEX
Mechanical difficulties with the Electra aircraft prevented NCAR from par-ticipating in the Japanese-led Air Mass Transformation Experiment (AMTEX) thisyear. The Electra developed propeller trouble enroute to Okinawa and had to bediverted to Seattle for repairs. Since AMTEX is only being run for two weeks,February 14-28, such a substantial delay made it impractical to join the programuntil next year. The Electra will be tested extensively during the next threemonths in preparation for the summer's work in the GARP Atlantic TropicalExperiment (GATE).
