In their latest incarnation, theQuintet reflect a tradition of Sundanese music whilstalso creating something fresh, modern and original.The music is centred on the kacapi, a boat-shapedzither whose mellifluous tones have been heard inSunda (West Java) for centuries. Using kacapi, violin,suling (flute) and the unique, tuned kendang (drums)to accompany singer (and dancer!) The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) and students from the University of York join forces for thecelebratory final concert of the OAE’s flagship ‘Anthem’ tour, which will have seen the OAE work with over 5,000primary pupils, 300 secondary students and 200 university students throughout England. Brazilian Carnival DayJoin us as we bring the excitement of the Brazilian Carnival to York! Heralding the South Americantheme of the 2012 York Early Music Festival and celebrating with the University of York’s Festival of Ideas,composer/percussionist Claudio Kron from Brazil will transport us to Latin America through a seriesof workshops exploring Brazilian arts and culture.

Sessions – aimed at 9 –14 year olds - will cover percussion music, samba dance and capoeira (mixing martial artsand dance!) with live performances from Claudio and his band, and the University of York St John Samba Band.

Monday 13 – Friday 17 August An Air of Mystery is set during the reign of Elizabeth I. Youngmusicians, whose ambition is to perform at court, findthemselves caught up in a network of espionage and secretscontrolled by the Queen’s spymaster, Francis Walsingham.

In a week of fun and creativity for 9 – 14 year olds, thedaily sessions will take place from 10.00am – 4.00pm,culminating in a performance for family and friendson Friday 17 August at 7.00pm.

The NCEM is accessible by car, bus, foot or bike (there are a number of cycle racks on the premises).

Car Parking: The Peel Street car park (off George Street) is free in the evenings andSundays to York residents, there is a £2.00 charge for non-residents.

How to BookAll concerts take place at the National Centre for Early Music, St Margaret’s Church,Walmgate,YorkYO1 9TL unless otherwise indicated. Seating at the NCEM is unreserved.

In Person: The National Centre for Early Music is situated in St Margaret’s Church, Walmgate, YorkYO1 9TL. The Box Office entrance is on Percy’s Lane, just off Navigation Road, open weekdaysbetween 9.00am – 5.00pm.

General Ticket InformationReservations: Tickets can be reserved but must be paid for within three working days and at least24 hours prior to the performance.

Concessions: These apply to people aged from 60 years onwards, unemployed, registered disabledand carers. Please note that a limited number of concessions are available for each concert.

Group Bookings: Buy 10 get one free! We welcome group bookings (subject to ticket availability)and ask that all tickets are booked in the same transaction to take advantage of this offer.

StudentTickets: Please note that the student price of £5.00 on selected events is a limited offer sobook early to avoid disappointment.

Student StandbyTickets: Look out for student standby tickets which will be available on the day forselected concerts only. This information will be publicised on our website one week prior to therelevant performances.

Refunds and Exchanges:We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or moneyrefunded except in the event of a cancelled performance.

GiftVouchers: These can be purchased from the Box Office in amounts of £5 and £10.
