Cyber Threat in 2012The upcoming new year will see cybercriminals act with even more persistency and sophistication, as the world shifts from the PC-centric desktop toward mobile and cloud computing. The repercussion for IT administrators will be an imperative to approach security with a data-centric framework – protecting the data, not just the systems.

2011 was the year that virtually all global players signaled their readiness to develop and deploy cyber weapons. The mass hysteria sparked by the discovery of the Stuxnet worm in 2010 led a number of states to start treating the use of cyber weapons against them as an act of war. However, by doing so, they are losing sight of some very important aspects of this type of threat.

However other cyber weapons, used to destroy data at a given time, are likely to be more widely used. Programs such as kill switches, logic bombs etc. can be developed on a regular basis and deployed systematically. Moreover, the creation of these programs can be outsourced to private contractors used by the military, or law enforcement and intelligence agencies. In many cases the outsourcer will never know the identity of the actual client.

How big is the Bhubaneswar IT Market?There are around 250 resellers based in the city selling around 5,000 PCs

monthly. Bhubaneswar is the capital of Orissa, almost twin cities. We are also seeing a retails revolution with around 100 retail outlets coming up in the city.

What are the key challenges faced by resellers?Support still remains the major concern. Although, most of the vendors

have their services centers here, they do not provide quality support. There have been several complaints from reseller and customers about the time lines and quality for support; this in turn affects the reputations of the vendors. We do not face any payments related issues here.

computers are preferred over branded once, hence most partners sell assembled computers for desktops requirements while for laptops ,high demand branded ones are positioned to the customers.

What are the activities organized by ITAO?We are 12 years old associations with 150 members. ITAO

was instituted with a view of uniting related people of the state, covering both professionals and business sector. The cardinal objective was to provide a common platform for mobilising the IT resources of the State and utilize the same for generating awareness and employment in the state. ITAO created IT awareness among the people of Orissa by its various IT Conventions, IT awareness programs, Product presentations, Quiz, Technical seminars and Hi-tech exhibitions since 1998, where we are expecting over one lakh footfalls.

recognisation even beyond the boundaries of Orissa. IT giants like

INTEL, HP, CISCO Systems, LG, LENOVO, HCL and many others are

proud sponsors for different IT EXPOs of ITAO. ITAO’s IT-Expos has

been successful in changing the complete outlook towards computers

and IT sector as a whole in Orissa. Its aim to enhance the IT user’s

product knowledge as well identifying and using the products by users

has been quite successful. The manufactures’ get an opportunity to

display and generate awareness for their products which certainly

build a better environment between the users and the products for

a better future. ITAO has become a nodal agency responsible for the

growth and development of IT industry in Orissa and has emerged as

the most important IT forum in the Orissa. It has successfully created

an ambience conducive to the growth of the industry and trade in this

region. The Association is a non-profit organisation, playing a proactive role in the development of IT trade. In an interview
