As a colony of Great Britain, Sir William Penn was granted the land now knownas Lower Moreland Township. He chose to save the land for a close familyfriend, a prominent London physician named Nicolas Moore. On June 7, 1684Nicolas Moore was granted the lands now comprised of Upper and LowerMoreland and the lands were deemed the Manor of Moreland. MontgomeryCounty was founded in 1784 and the area known as the Manor of Moreland was changed to Moreland Township. It was not until January 3, 1917 that the modern day municipality known as The Township of Lower Moreland was created.
