Nemetschek Scia is offering an integrated solution for the steel fabrication industry. Every steel fabricator has to manage both projects and processes. Our NemBIM server (a Microsoft SQL Server database) manages all this data for you. For project tools, such as project planning, project progress... , complete project documentation as well as project-cost-control are available.

Master Scheduler

Within the database, all data is stored from the BOM (Bill of Material), the full 3D geometry of the assemblies up to the smallest operations on the parts (e.g. holes, notches, welds...) and is obviously at the users’ full disposal.

Master Scheduler

This application is developed for planning your resources across different projects. Based on the normal cycle for a steel fabrication project (defi ned in predefi ned templates), the actual project and the defi ned delivery date, a resource planning can be generated. This is done for each individual project. Based on that, the program calculates the required resources in time for each individual resource. The loading per resource in time can be visualized graphically. If a specifi c resource is overloaded, the manager in charge has the possibility to overcome the issues by reallocating the resources in time. The planning starts with a global planning based on offer data and as the time goes by it will be refi ned when more accurate data is available. There are different roles defi ned and each role has its responsibility and access to adapt the planning. An example: the delivery date can only be changed by the project manager.

Based on this master scheduler, it is possible to make the detailed planning of each resource. An automatic update of the master scheduler is foreseen. The initial value for the planning will be updated to real steel fabrication elements after the detailing has been done. So as time passes, the data will become more and more accurate.

Monitoring Progress

Technical Information Manager (TIM)(part of Scia Steel Manager)

With this module you have all project information at your fi ngertips. It is a very easy to handle application that can be used by all people involved in the project.

As the name is indicating, all information can be viewed here. From a graphical representation of the model over the indication of the statuses to detailed information of each element.

This module gives you the possibility to follow up your projects at a glance. A colour scale is applied on the graphical model to identify the current status of each element and each part.

It is possible to get all information from each element by just selecting the element in the graphic window: • A production drawing• DSTV fi les• The status• The delivery day• The production day, etc.

This means that all available data can be easily accessed.

Another part of TIM is the so-called assembler.

This assembler is used for defi ning the production, delivery and assembly phases and assign elements to it. A planned element is assigned a phase number and the corresponding date of the phase. Each phase is then visualized according to its settings and the planned sequence can be simulated graphically. In other words, planning errors on the building site will be eliminated in advance. In the future a connection to other planning applications, such as Microsoft Project Planning, will be foreseen.

TIM is the base module of the Scia Steel Manager. It is required as a basis for all other modules, containing the basic environment, all the settings of the Scia Steel Manager, the catalogue etc.

Order

The Scia Steel BOM module gives you the opportunity to estimate the cost for each project. This BOM can either come from CAE or CAD or can be entered manually.

All this information can be linked to ERP to manage the offers.

The fi rst step when an offer becomes an order is that the project information is stored into our NemBIM database. This information, such as the name of the contractor, the address, etc., can be used to complete the stamp on the drawings. Also for all generated reports we need this kind of information to be able to make the correct reports and documentation.

Design & Detailing

Structural Analysis with Scia EngineerScia Engineer is a 2D/3D structural analysis software for analysis of all kinds of structures in steel, concrete and prestressed concrete. This software is covering linear analysis but is also supporting complicated analysis with construction stages, non linear (cracking) concrete, time dependent analysis, dynamics, etc.

For the steel fabrication industry we have very special features available for making your own parametric library with elements for fast design. All kinds of element shapes can be parameterized (geometry, loads, cross-sections, strand patterns, etc.) and be reused in the future. Structures (like PEB) can be calculated with a full 3D model for a full load descending. After that each prefabricated beam can be checked individually, each with its own history.

We are supporting many international standards, including of course the latest Eurocode and IBC.

There is a roundtrip available with most used CAD systems. This means that a model made in CAD can be transferred to Scia Engineer and it will be automatically adapted to an analysis model. Results of the calculation can be sent back to CAD.

Detailing (CAD)Scia Steel continuously improves and aligns the integration with detailing systems such as Tekla, Strucad, SDS, Bocad and others.

This integration goes further than the standard interfaces. We are able to manage in our NemBIM server parts, assemblies, welds, bolts etc. as BOM and even as 3D entity of these CAD-systems.

A revision management system manages all changes during the project process within Scia Steel Manager.

This information is needed to be able to professionally manage your steel fabrication-company.

Production

Production planning (part of Scia Steel Manager)

Within Scia Steel Manager the entire production process is determined based on the following parameters: what, how, where and when: Each position and assembly are linked to one or more’ what’ parameters. Some typical ‘what’ parameters are: saw, cut, hole, outline, paint surface 100 μ… They determine the geometry and the general characteristics of the elements which have to be delivered.

During the process, each ‘what’ parameter can be realized in various ways, it is determined how this has to be realized and where (resource, cost-center). Finally, when are these ‘what, how and where’ processed and what is the actual time span they have been executed in (planned versus realized).

Scia Steel Manager is able to derive all welds out of the CAD model, in this way also fi tting and welding is planned and managed accurately. The power of Scia Steel Manager is the fact that due to a simple parameterization of your production process, the programme totally automatically decides how and where your production will be done; it is defi ned directly after the CAD detailing data is available. Of course one can make fl exible use of this feature; each project, production order of position/assembly can be modifi ed as one thinks fi t. In a simple way the system registers what has been produced and in how much time. If the CNC-machines allow it, this information is treated online.

We provide graphical representations of:• The whole hall, with the production facilities inside and a

production situation for a given moment• The production units, with the graphical planning on it• The elements, with or without any details (e.g.

reinforcement, fi xtures…)• The whole model of a project

Stock & Purchase

Scia Steel ManagerIn Scia Steel Manager the entire material management with regard to stock and project material use is determined. Per company, the material library is standardized. The power of this standardization is the obtained uniformity within one company. At the same time a list of synonyms has been built up, in this way incompatible data (from outside the company) are transposed into company-own terminology when entered. The database has an open structure, so materials can be added and properties per material can also be defi ned freely. Reading in and exporting the material library is done by excel fi les. The material management is divided in 4 large groups: • Profi les (length) • Plates (length x width) • Fixing articles (diameter and possible length) • Free articles (element-oriented and

dimension-independent)

The material management is done from the stock database. Specifi cally for steel fabrication, offcut management is foreseen. An example: an IPE300 of 12 meter is sawn into a length of 5.8 meter for a specifi c project, the rest length of 6.2 meter will be returned to the stock. It is very important that the history of these changes is kept; each piece is traceable, both regarding origin and supplier. This is necessary for your QM (Quality Management).

In order to check how a specifi c project has to be realized, an automatic algorithm is used to decide whether the basis material (profi le or plate) has to be: • Taken out of stock • Bought at a supplier at commercial lenghts • Bought at the rolling mill (with automatic calculation of the

ideal lengths) • Bought sawn to size, taking the sawing cost into account.

Finally, a purchase order is generated within Scia Steel Manager.

CAM / CNC

CAM / CNC (part of Scia Steel Manager)

Within Scia Steel Manager, CNC-machines are steered from the NemBIM database. This part is used in particular in the work preparation of the plate and profi le machines.

The following functionalities are available: • Reading in CAD data such as DSTV-NC and DXF • Drawing profi les and plates via macros • Creating own macros via macro language for plates • Editing and adding operations • Automatic transfer of plates to fl ats and vice versa • Automatic and manual nesting of profi les and plates • Generating drawings for plates and profi les • Making drawings for nested plates and profi les • Making NC postprocessors for all CNC profi le and CNC

plate machines • Reporting that processed parts in the CNC machine are

fi nished • Reading actual production times out of the CNC machine

Scia Steel Manager is also a preprocessor for creating DSTV-NC-data. The entire package of macros for profi les and plates is availed to defi ne the geometry. As soon as the geometry has been defi ned, a DSTV-NC-fi le will be generated.

Transport

Production Acceptance Manager / Progress Manager (part of Scia Steel Manager)

A special production acceptance application is available to accept the produced elements after production. When elements are not accepted, e.g. because something went wrong during production, it is possible to put the status back to REMAKE. This means that these elements can be planned in production again. The not approved elements will stay in the database and a history will be kept to know what has happened in the factory. This is meant for statistic purposes.

A stockyard location is defi ned for the approved elements. This will enable you to retrieve the elements. This location can also be printed on the delivery note.

Besides the Production Acceptance Manager you also have a Progress Manager at your disposal. With this application it is possible to track the progress of a project or an individual element. After a specifi c phase has been passed in the project, e.g. drawing fi nished, planned for delivery etc., the system records the progress. This will be visualized through the status in our Technical Information Manager.

The approval of elements can also be carried out by barcode registration.

WIS : Welding Information System, Quality Management for the welders and the project-welds, including WPS (weld procedure system), WPC (weld procedure certifi cates), WT (weld tracking) and QA (quality acceptance).

Transport

Delivery Manager (part of Scia Steel Manager)

Finally all produced elements have to be delivered to the building site.

The Delivery Manager is based on the principle of stacks, which can be placed on a transport (lorry, ship, airplane…). The planning of these stacks is done graphically; automatic checks for stability are available during the planning. The maximum weight of the stack is also checked and other constructive checks are done to be sure the elements will not break. Also extra delivery materials can be added to deliveries and it is possible to generate delivery notes.

The planning of stacks is based on the defi ned assembly order and delivery phases. These delivery phases and the assembly order can be defi ned with the Technical Information Manager (TIM), which is explained above in this brochure. Just select the proper elements and defi ne by drag and drop the delivery phases and the assembly order.

Erection

For the erection of the building the proper assembly order is needed. This assembly order is also defi ned in the Technical Information Manager (TIM). Here you can select the elements in the right order. After that it is possible to do a simulation of the erection of the building. Possible mistakes can be detected easily from behind your desk! A list containing the assembly order together with a drawing is available.

Again the progress can be recorded either directly within the model or by using tracking-systems such as barcodes...

Reporting (part of Scia Steel Manager)

There is a separate reporting tool, offering a wide range of standard reports. As the Scia Steel Manager is based on an open SQL database there is of course the possibility to make your own individual lists. An extra highlight is that we offer special tools to be able to insert nice graphics, e.g. the stacking of the lorry, on the report.

Each report will also be accessible through an internet portal, so it is retrievable from all over the world.

Integration with ERP systems (part of Scia Steel Manager)

As you can read in this brochure Nemetschek Scia is covering a large part of ERP functionality but then dedicated to the steel fabrication industry. Since steel fabrication factories are working with complex and ever changing forms, they have a defi nite need for graphical information. And that is the strength of Scia Steel Manager… 3D Graphics are used throughout the entire solution. For the steel fabrication industry it is not easy to plan the production and the lorry without knowing the 3D shape of the elements. Also integration with CAD and structural analysis are an extra asset of our solution.

And here Nemetschek Scia makes the difference... no regular ERP system can deliver this functionality.

But for CRM, prospection and fi nancial aspects you need another system because this is not our strength. Normally these systems (standard ERP or own development) are available in a steel fabrication factory. Nemetschek Scia is however able to make the perfect integration with all of these systems.
