PARTNERSHIPS FOR

LEARNING

NEVO is a partnership made up of Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) and non-DECD secondary schools, which provide a wide range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to Year 10, 11 and 12 students in North East Adelaide. The job-related courses will increase pathway options for students through the provision of VET choices linked to the Industry Pathways Program.

In collaboration with the North East Trade School for the Future, NEVO provides curriculum and learning choices, which support all students in these schools to achieve the SACE and to provide pathways, which lead all students to further education, training and/or employment.

NEVO VET courses are hosted by schools and Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) and are available for students from DECD and non DECD schools to enrol in. Students stay enrolled at their Home School, and attend the Host School or RTO for their NEVO VET course.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

OF CHOOSING A NEVO

VET COURSE?

Gaining a nationally – recognised qualification while completing your SACE.

Getting a Head start in your chosen career.

Making your senior school study more relevant and interesting.

Providing opportunities to learn ‘on the job’ through workplace learning.

Gaining the skills and knowledge that employers look for.

Providing pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships (including School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships) further education and training and direct employment.

Upon completion of a NEVO VET Course, students wishing to continue their training pathway can do so through:

A School-Based Apprenticeship: Only DECD School students can meet with the Apprenticeship Broker to discuss their options. For more information please visit www.

The Training Guarantee for

SACE Students (TGSS): SACE students can undertake VET training at an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in certain qualifications, and have a guaranteed training place after completing SACE to finish the qualification they have started. For more information, speak to your VET Coordinator about completing an application Education and Training Plan and visit www.skills.sa.gov.au

CAN IT COUNT

TOWARDS SACE?

The flexibility of the SACE enables students to include a significant amount of VET in their SACE studies. The SACE credit information is shown in each VET Course. Please refer to the information in this brochure and also on our website (www.

nevo.sa.edu.au) under NEVO VET Courses. Please also speak to your VET Coordinator for more information about VET in the SACE, or visit the SACE Board website:

WILL I NEED TO DO SOME

WORKPLACE LEARNING AS

PART OF MY VET

COURSE?

Many VET courses require students to undertake Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). This involves learning opportunities related to your VET course in a real or simulated workplace. These placements provide on-the-job training and mentoring to develop your technical and employability skills. SWL also provides opportunities for on-the-job assessment as part of your VET course. Before participating in workplace learning you will need to complete a workplace learning agreement form, which needs to be signed by your Home School Principal, Care Givers, yourself and the workplace employer.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A

NEVO VET COURSE?

Step 1 – Read the information in this brochure.

Step 2 – Read the detailed VET Course information for the course/s you are interested in and encourage your caregivers to read this too. This information is available for each course on our website (www.nevo.sa.edu.au) under NEVO – VET Courses.

Step 3 – Download and fill in an Expression of Interest Form from the website (www.nevo.sa.edu.au). This form needs to be forwarded to the VET Coordinator for an interview appointment.

Step 4 – At your interview you will be provided with all the information and an NEVO Enrolment Form. Which needs to be sign by your caregivers, yourself and VET Coordinator. This will then be forwarded to the Host School for approval of acceptance. Selection for entry to NEVO VET Courses will be based on the following principles:

Demonstrate capacity for independent learning and meeting the requirements of the course.

Identified relevant interest and/or experience in the course.

Step 5 – Applicants will be advised of the enrolment outcome term 4.

Step 6 – Applicant may need some further subject counselling at their Home school to ensure that the VET Course is included in their SACE and timetable.

Will I have to pay to participate in a NEVO VET Course?

All students will need to speak to your Home School VET Coordinator re costs. Also specific equipment or materials are required to be purchase. Please see detailed VET course information on our website (www.nevo.sa.edu.au) for more detail about these costs.
