A Mother’s Day Blessing

Blessed is the Mother Who lets the Lord be

her guiding hand. Whose faith brings her

family courage, Whose wisdom comes

from God, And whose children

rise up and praise her.

Lord, we ask your abundant blessings on all those who ‘mother’. They join you in the miracle of bringing forth new life. Their lives speak of love and sacrifice, joys and pains. Let us especially remember today: Mothers-to-be...Women who patiently wait to conceive…and those who are unable to bear their own… Step mothers…Foster mothers… Single mothers…Teenage mothers…Mothers who courageously choose to give birth and not abort…Mothers who have aborted who seek heal-ing…Those who lovingly ‘mother’ children who are not their own…Those who are caregivers…Mothers of special needs children…Mothers who work two and three jobs to provide for their families…Mothers who sacrifice food and personal needs to feed their children…Mothers who suffer personal hard-ships…Mothers of those in jail and prison…Immigrant mothers, especially those separated from their children. We especially remember mothers who grieve the loss of children, grandchil-dren, and their own mothers, who gave them the gift of life. Lord, bless all mothers every day with joy, peace, and healing. Give them patience and strength. Let mothers look to you and Our Blessed Mother for guidance. She especially understands the joys, pains, and sorrows of mothers, always leading them back to you. Fifth Sunday of Easter (Mother’s Day)

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

My Friends, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” It’s true that we re-semble our parents, not only in our physical characteristics, but in our personalities as well. Though as a (sometimes petulant) child, I can remember thinking of all the ways I would parent my own children differently, I hear my mother’s voice quite regu-larly when I address my kids. And when they speak, they will often use phrases or ideas that I have expressed, sometimes with inflection identical to my own. While this is not always a good thing, it does demonstrate the point that in many ways, we act as a mirror to our parents.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus shares with us that He, too, reflects His Father’s heart. “I am in the Father, and the Father is in me.” If you want to know the Father, you need only look to the Son. It is through Jesus that we are able to get a glimpse of the unfathom-able love the Father has for us.

Office is staffed on Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 am -3:00 pm and on weekends by ap-pointment. Please call before stopping by.

This year’s annual Walk-A-Thon happened on the warmest and sunniest day yet this year; only to be outshone by the boisterous and generous spirit of the

K-8th grade students! What a magnificent day for this last major fundraiser of the school year! It was marvelous to see the park-ing lot busy with a seemingly endless stream of students, faculty, and staff walking together to the beat of loud and festive music. The funds raised are for school improvements. One 4th grade student was especially happy because her Dad helped at the event. Thank you parent volunteers! You are invited to donate to Queen of Apostles School. We will be purchasing new books and programs for the up-coming school year. If you are interested, please contact the school office or Cindy Zanotto.

Registration for the 2017-2018 Faith Formation program is now open. Register before June 1st to receive a $25 discount on enrollment! Returning students can re-enroll through schoolspeak. To register new students, go to http://www.qofa.org/faithformation- , and click on the link for registration.

PEACEMAKERS Our wonderful Bishop McGrath recognizes the gifts of those who work in this diocese. He has created a new job specifically with one person in mind. Fr. Jon Pedigo is the new Director for Projects for Peace and Justice for the Diocese. Fr. Jon is now able to give himself full time to those Peace and Justice projects he knows are necessary to make a difference in this world.

Fr. Jon began his ministry in the Diocese of San Jose and most re-cently pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish. He has been active in PACT (People Acting in Community Together) as well as immersion projects to Mexico and Latin America. He has lived his life as an ex-ample to all of us to act for peace and justice in the way we live our lives. He has received many awards: 2010 Directors award from the Human Relations Commission, 2013 Cesar award from the American Muslim Voice, 2014 Cesar Chavez Si Se Puede Award. Fr. Jon is a role model for us all. He reminds us that to be a Christian is to act as Christ would want us to act.

Book: Rediscover Jesus

Chapter 20: Chapter 20. Radical Love

LIFE IS A COURSE DESIGNED to teach us to love. The love God wants to give you--and the love he wants you to give to others—is radically different. God loves you not because of anything you do for him. If you have children, you probably understand this love more now than before you had them. Parents love their children not because of what their children do, but simply because they are theirs. They get that instinct, that ability to love for love’s sake, from God. QUEEN OF APOSTLES YOUTH MINISTRY FUND-RAISER: MOTHER’S DAY BAKE SALE MAY 14, MORNING MASSES IN THE COMMUNITY CENTER. As many of you know, retreats are great opportunities for teens to grow in their faith and love for God. I feel blessed to have witnessed this with many of our own teens. However, one big reason a teen may choose not to attend a retreat is the cost. As a response, our youth ministry is hosting a Mother’s Day Bake Sale. And all of the proceeds will go directly to retreat scholarships. Can you help us support our teens and their families? Different ways to support this event:

1. Donate home baked goods by signing up here: tiny-url.com/Mother’sDayBakeSale

2. Volunteer at the event by signing up here:tinyurl.com/Mother’sDayBakeSale

3. Spread the word (flyer at the church )

4. Pray for our efforts, Again, thank you so much for your time and all the ways you support our parish com-munity !!! Klarissa
