Introduction

New Age is a culture emphasized on

spiritual betterment, alternative medicine,

health, and coming back to ancient artifactsin combination with common

knowledge of emergent scientific theories

to create a theory of everything.

NormsIt is often times the norm in New Age Culture to act on ones free

will and be left disaffected by institutions that constrain theirfree will. The New Age movement also endorses holistichealth, routine fasting, herbal medicines, consumption ofcolloidal metals, and self-propagation. Having a comparativelyscattered population, New Agers also frequently attend

conventions in which a speaker discusses and elaborates on NewAge beliefs.

FolkwaysBecause the New Age movement is a spiritual movement which

incorporates values adopted from many other religions, most

New Agers do not hold strict consequences for those who havea partial belief in New Age teachings. However, manyNewAgers are strongly against scientific conservatism and do oftentimes identify against those who immediately dismiss radicalNew Age theories.

BeliefsMacrocosm and Microcosm

A prominent characteristic in New Age philosophy is that there is acommon scheme that is reproduced throughout the cosmos,from the sub-atomic/metaphysical level (Microcosm) to auniversal level.(Macrocosm)

Phase Conjugate Dielectrics

Phase Conjugate Dielectrics, with the intermingling of hydrogenfrequencies, plank, phi, and piezoelectric fields, is said to, bymanyNew Agers, cause states of growth and euphoria byutilizing infinite compression.

Chakra System

Another belief that is widespread among New Agers is the idea of achakra system, a map of the bodys vital energy points. Thesepoints are said to regulate emotion, intuition, spirituality, andanimalism. Modernly, this is is oftentimes incorporated withcommon knowledge of electric fields.

Collective Consciousness Shift

The main belief of the New Age movement is that idea that all humanslevel of awareness has been growing since the 1960s-1970s and willultimately result in an actualization of total human capacity, which issometimes related to specific future events. (thus, The coming of aNew Age.)

Paradigm S

hift

ManyNew Age beliefs have concepts rooted in paradigm shifts in

mainstream science. A paradigm shift is the gradual, collectivechange in scientific assumptions.

Hierarchy of Spiritual Realms (Prism of Lyra)Most often the most sensationalized aspect ofNew Age philosophy is

the belief in a hierarchy of spiritual Realms. This is, at its core, theidea that before and after the current, corporeal existence, humansascend or descend through states of connectivity with an ultimate,

whole consciousness, dependent on the level of bliss pursued,

Western Astrology

Western Astrology is the theory that past and future conditions of humansare determined by the alignment of the celestial bodies, correspondent

with a given horoscope sign. (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo,Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, and (sometimes)Ouroboros.)

Reincarnation/Genetic MemoryReincarnation and genetic memory are theories that are foundational in the

New Age belief of hierarchical-spiritual realms. Reincarnation is theidea that before and after the current corporeal existence, there is anoption as to what one becomes in their next life. Genetic memory isthe idea that, embedded within human DNA, is a collection of all of theexperiences and instincts gathered from former lives.

Quantum Physics/Metaphysics

The New Age philosophy often draws on common knowledge of quantumphysics and energy fields and asserts them to be force-carriers of therelationship between collective states of being and individual

consciousness. (Metaphysics)

ReligiousPluralism/Theosophy

New Agers often draw on various religions/hermetic and mysticteachings to change their perceptions of their own spirituality.Religious pluralism is the idea that that all religions hold truth,often times to the extent that various figures, symbols, andstories mentioned in religious scriptures are interpretations of a

single, original story.Intuition

Intuition is described by Daniel Kahneman as thoughts andpreferences that come to mind quickly and without muchreflection." The New Age movement often considers intuition

to be an unknowing analysis of the universal scheme involvedwith the macrocosm and microcosm. (ex. Clock synchronicities,overriding symbology, etc)

LanguageThe New Age movement does not have its own colloquialisms, but does

adopt many titles/terms from other cultures Namaste to bow to you

Shaman a leader of a spiritual community

Although New Agers do not have their own colloquialisms, there is

terminology that is frequently used in New Age teachings.

Light beings- A term used to describe supposed angelic, spiritualbeings who serve to protect humans.

4th, 5th, 6th, densities: Hypothetical states of being in which thehuman becomes progressively less connected to time and morerecollective of their genetic memory.

Ley Lines A geometrically determineddesign of lines drawn across the

world which, supposedly, highlights places of

spiritual significance/enlightenment.

Rituals/CelebrationsMeditation

The New Age movement generally endorses the use of meditation

as a method of self-help and spiritual betterment.

New Agersalso believe this is a way to access all information through theAkashic records, a hypothetical bank of all of the Universesknowledge.

Shamanistic/ Recreational drug use

Within the New Age movement are a few who endorse the use ofDimethyltryptamine (DMT) as a method to access andunderstand the scheme behind the macrocosm and microcosm.These people sometimes proclaim themselves as shamans andgive spiritual reflections of their experiences.

LocationsAlthough generallyNew Agers are scattered very far apart, the

vastly different nature ofNew Age teachings and inclusion ofalternative sources of information call for an urban

environment.

RelationshipsThose engrossed in New Age culture see their peers through a

mostly egalitarian lens, promoting suppressed sciences, theFreedom ofInformation Act, and sometimes referring tothemselves as Gods and/or Goddesses.

Methods forRecruitmentNew Age culture generally does not have a method of recruitment,

but it is rather proselytizing in nature. This can be seen throughthe use of multiple religions to come together to create ageneral, abstract idea of God and the egalitarian attitude of itsfollowers.
