PRESIDENTS NOTES: Since the October meeting, I’ve been spending most of my time getting our home ready to sell. It’s not surprising that we’ve accumulated a lot of “stuff” in nearly 35 years at the same address. By the time we meet in January, I expect to have our home listed. Our new home might be ready by late Feb-ruary or early March. Although I don’t yet know when we will be able to move, my plan is to finish the April newsletter early and mail it before we move. If you have any address corrections or items to include in the April newsletter, please send them be-fore Groundhog Day, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. ALOA Convention: July 8—14, 2018 Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor MD. The last elections reported in the Minutes were: October 2012: Election for Secretary and Treasurer was held and Sharon Gregory accepted Secretary and Josh Seybert accepted Treasurer. October 2013: President: Charles Ward elected. Vice President Scott Hansen elected. Treasurer: (Josh Seybert resigned) Tony Delgado elected. October 2014: Nominations for President and Secretary tabled until January. January 2015: Grady Turner was elected President and Sharon Gregory secretary. Article IV, Section 2 of our by-laws states, “The terms of … President and vice-President shall expire in the odd-numbered years and … Treasurer, Secretary … in even-numbered years” Our by-laws have apparently not been reviewed or updated for many years. To facilitate a review, I believe the first step is to transcribe any existing versions into computer documents. A committee could then compare the documents to any existing printed versions. Any differences would need to be resolved. Sheila DeRose informed me that Ted has recovered fairly well. However they have retired and moved to Tennessee. She will be returning the NLA Secretary’s briefcase and materials. Therefore, we will need to elect a Secretary at our January meeting. NLA Meeting Dates for 2018: January 19, 20—Lincoln Class: Master Key Systems—Decoding & analyzing April 20, 21—Omaha Class: Alarm Systems July 20, 21—Kearney Friday swap meet October 19, 20—Omaha Grady

Master Key System Decoding & Expansion

Class Description: We have had several classes on How to Master Key a system but as far as I know we have had NO class on how to decode and expand a system for our customer if no Paperwork is availa-ble. This class (I hope) is to shed some light on this lucrative side of our business. Namely: 1. How to determine either the Master key or the change key in a given lock. 2. How to Figure out the possibilities for expansion and if it is feasible to expand. 3. How to find a Change key if Master is known or reverse-engineer to get the Master from a Change key. 4. How to determine what Kind of system is used, Rotat-ing constant, Progressive, Mogul Locks, List system, Page system, Manual system or Napkin system. 5. This will be a hands-on class so PLEASE BRING THESE TOOLS: { Tweezers, Follower (.500 hollow preferred), Caliper or Micrometer, poke tool, knurled nut wrench, work mat, small screwdrivers for Mortise locks, a few Picks just in case}, any other tools you normally use to pin cylinders with. A small pinning tray will be provided to help keep things sorted out. We will discuss other keyways but will be using the Standard SC1 for class, If you have a cylinder that you have questions on Please bring it … Someone may even know the answer. THIS IS NOT AN ACE CLASS. Cost of the Class $40.00 Instructor: Eugene (Gene) Hansen, CAL CRL, Hansen’s Locksmithing out of Alliance, Nebraska.
