New features in the

Danish address system

Where are the adresses?

DAR 1.0 (”Danish Address Register”) is 100 % separated from other central

registers – Addresses are part of basic infrastructure, and is not depended

on Buildings, Cadasters, People etc.

DAR 1.0 is currently being developed by NetCompany.

Septima helps SDFE (Agency for Data supply and efficiency) to create

some new elements in the danish address register

4 new elements in DAR 1.0

”Street links” for all addresses – where do I park the car?

”Named street” – joins together seperate municipal streets

Area of effekt for streetnames – where is the ”Named street” ?

Reservation (housenumbers and streetnames)

Street links

The problem:

An ambulance has to find a specific address

The online GPS navigation system knows the coordinates for the address, but knows not where to park the ambulance on the street network, in order to reach the entrance door

Street links

The solution:

For each address, create a corresponding Geographical point on the street-network.

Street links

The challenge:

Difficult to calculate

The GPS vendors must be convinced to use the ”street link” in stead of address-point

Named streets

The problem(s):

All streets in Denmark are administrated by the municipalities

No one knows if two streets in two neighbour Municipalities in fact is two or one street

The two ”versions” of the street-name could be spelled differently

Normally a citizen don’t know much about municipality borders, so it’s difficult to understand why he gets two results when he searches for a street crossing a municipality border

Named streets

The solution:

”Named street” and ”municipality part of named street

No spelling variants for the same streetname

Easy to understand and admnister

95 % of the danish streets, will have one-to-one relation between ”named street” and municipality street

5 % of the streets will be joined together to a named-streeet

Named streets

The challenge:

To find all the situations where two municipality streets are in fact the same named street

Area of effect for streetnames

The problem:

The regulation ”A streetname must be unique within a radius of 10 km.” is difficult to enforce when you don’t know the excact ”area of effect” for a streetname

In the early stages of a street’s lifecycle, the excact geography is not known (no addresses and no centerlines). The AOE allows to draw temp. areas

Area of effecteffect for streetnames

The solution:

Create a Geographic area, that represent the appx. area of the street (including centerlines and address points)

Area of effecteffect for streetnames

The challenge:

How to make a ”nice”, understandable area, that reflects the area of effect for the street

Reservations

The problem:

When planning new residential areas, it is often nessecary to decide names of the streets in the area in an early stage.

When you decide the names you risk that the neighbour Municipality ”steals” the name before et is stated.

The same problem, occours when planning new housenumbers on a street, that crosses a Municipality border

Reservations

The solution:

Allow a municipality to ”reserve” a streetname (for a period of time), so it cannot be used by the neighbour municipality

Allow a municipality to reserve housenumbers on a street, that continues into the Neighbour Municipality

Reservations

The challenge:

There exists some ”non-formal” reservations in certain municipalities. The format is not structured and have to be handled manually

Existing house number-reservations, conflicts in some cases: eg: 2-998 in one municipality 38-42 in the neighbour.

Now for the creation process

Every calculations is done in PostgreSQL /

PostGIS

Only free available data is used in the process

Street links - creation process

Creation af street links, is based on a bunch of datasets:

The road-network (from GeoDanmark, SDFE)

The physical obstacles, buildings, rivers etc.

The Cadaster

The addresspoints

The obvious method – nearest street

Street links - creation process The obvious method – nearest street !

Street links - creation process

A better method – nearest street where the street-id is correct

Physical restrictions

Named streets - creation process

Creation of named streets links, is based on:

The road-network (from GeoDanmark, SDFE)

The addresspoints

Municipality borders

Spot the difference!

Mind the gap!

Conclusion

When DAR 1.0 goes live it’s equipped with som

nice new features

Test-data are delivered – the final datasets are

in progress

I look forward to see the new elements live in

DAR 1.0

Thank you for you patience!
