Beginning in March, this studio will serve a variety of purposes: It will be the broadcast home for public affairs programs On the Record with Michael Aron and Reporters Roundtable with Michael Aron; a satellite location to conduct interviews for the weeknight news program NJ Today with Mike Schneider; and it will be available for use by other media organizations. Partnerships are especially important to NJTV’s growth, particularly for NJ Today. A new partnership with LiveU, a company that produces portable equipment for live video transmissions, enables NJ Today to be more nimble in its news coverage. new locations & broadcasts opportunities for njtv studios

NJTV continues to grow its operations and reputation throughout New Jersey, most recently introducing a new broadcast studio in the Welcome Center at the New Jersey Statehouse in Trenton.

LiveU’s backpack transmitters were key in the Hurricane Sandy and recovery coverage, which resulted in a 2013 EDGE Award for the network from the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS). APTS CEO Patrick Butler called NJTV a “model for serving the information needs of local citizens with an unrivaled breadth and depth,” continuing that “this EDGE award is richly earned and we congratulate our colleagues at NJTV for a job well done.” The annual EDGE Awards highlight excellence in the use of technology, groundbreaking partnerships and other pioneering work in public television.

More broadcast facilities for the network are located at state colleges and universities. NJ Today, produced at Montclair State University, allows students and faculty to participate in the daily production of the program, working closely with staff in a hands-on environment. Seton Hall University recently signed on as NJTV’s seventh content bureau and South Jersey’s Courier-Post publication became the newest media partner, joining the ranks of over a dozen others. Alliances like these give NJTV’s viewers more local content than ever before!

Many communities affected by Superstorm Sandy continue to rebuild and deal with other weather phenomena, such as Snowstorm Nemo. Driving Jersey’s Post-Sandy journey continues into some of the hardest hit areas in Monmouth County, including Union Beach, Belmar and Manasquan. The footage of these affected areas in the days just after the storm and the stories of those impacted are tragic, haunting and yet, ultimately inspiring.

“driving jersey” revisits post-sandy episode

Pictured at the ribbon cutting ceremony of NJTV’s new broadcast studio (from L to R) are: NJTV General Manager John Servidio, NJ Today Anchor and Managing Editor Mike Schneider, WNET President & CEO Neal Shapiro, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff, and NJTV Chief Political Correspondent Michael Aron.

Superstorm Hurricane Sandy will be placed in perspective alongside other weather events that changed the Jersey Shore forever. Host Emil Salvini looks at the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944, and how resorts along the coastline dealt with the aftermath. Pictured above is the town of Belmar after a 1938 tidal wave.
