Issue: April 2018

Happy Spring! April 1st is not only April Fool’s day but also Easter this year. I hope you and your family can spend time together for the holiday. I know Easter is so much more than candy and bunnies but when you have little kids around it is all about Easter eggs and treats. April 1st is my sweet son Jack’s 23rd birthday and I hope he will be able to be home with us for his birthday and Easter. After he gradu-ated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette in December he headed to Denver Colorado on January 1st to teach reading to at-risk kids from kindergarten to 3rd grade, and is really enjoying life. I am praying everything works out so he can be home for a couple of days. I would be the happi-est mom around. You know, like all moms, I just want my family together for the holidays and special days. I know my kids are all grown up but they will always be my babies no mat-ter how old they get. My month of March was filled with a lot of visits to the hospital and doctors’ offices. Not for me but for family. My mom, sister, and grandson all got this terrible influenza B that is going around and were sick for a couple of weeks. My grand-daughter Adeline had an ear infection, then, my grandson Milo took a tumble at our house and cut his little eyelid and had to get the cut glued together. The Senior Center hasn’t been spared when it came to the flu. A couple of the employees have been really sick and several of the seniors have had bouts with this terrible germ. Accord-ing to everyone, good handwashing is one of the best ways to keep the flu at bay. I want to thank everyone at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital and all of the physicians for all of the care you have given everyone this flu season. This month we have some fun programs and activities to look forward to. If you like to try new ways to have fun, stay active or even
learn something new, the Senior Center is the place to be. We have a wonderful group who will be calling Produce Bingo on Friday, April 6th. The Manistee Area Leadership Program is planning one amazing day of service to support our community. They will be at the Senior Center to explain the program and let everyone know how they can help or get help during this great program. Don’t miss this important fun day. We have also had a group of 6 seniors who are participating in the Senior Odyssey in Grand Rapids on Saturday, April 14th. If we can get a group together, I think we should go down to Grand Rapids and cheer on this fun and inter-esting program. Let me know if you want to go so I can make arrangements. We have our annual Senior Craft Show on
Saturday, April 21. We still have a couple of tables for crafters if you are interested. If you are a shopper, we have some of the best crafters around so come in and see what we have for Mother’s day, grandkids, or for yourself. It’s always a good time. The week of April 16 through the 20th is National Volunteer Week.
If you are at the Senior Center and you see one of our wonderful vol-unteers please let them know how much they mean to all of us. With-out our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run the Senior Center and there are many, many organizations that wouldn’t be here without their volunteers. We appreciate what every
one of you do for us, you are wonder-ful, kind and caring people. Thank you
for sharing your lives with our staff and all of the seniors in Manistee County.
Get ready, we have “Wheelin’ & Dealin” with Johnny O on Tuesday, May 22nd at the Norman Township Community Center. There will be transportation from Manistee to Wellston, so get signed up and come to this extra fun day. I hope you can find something that looks inter-esting to get involved in during April.I hope you have a blessed Easter and a wonderful April. Remember to try something new!
