Martina MrongoviuS HolograpHic perSpective The installations of holograms that Martina has created around the world, entice viewers to move around the space to reveal the animated scenes. As the holographic perspective is animated by the viewer’s own movement the images trigger a proprioceptive spatial experience of the recorded scene. This documentary follows Martina into the lab and through a number of her exhibitions to reveal how she uses the holographic medium to narrate an urban perspective. While offering a rare glimpse into the process of creating holographic imagery, Martina’s installations also bring up broader issues relating to how visual media shapes perception. ulf langHeinricH tHe aeStHetic of SenSory overloadUlf Langheinrich was born in Wolfen, Sachsen Anhalt, Germany in 1960. Ulf’s projects utilise photography, sound and video, l ight, and technology, to create sensory environments that seek to question the conventions of multimedia. The career of Ulf Langheinrich is best known for his internationally acclaimed work in the two-man group, Granular Synthesis. The project, which began in 1991 with these two self-proclaimed “media terrorists”, does more in the way of a performance than it does to define the men involved. Code: UL-Ulf Uni £125 / School £75

tHe MuSic MacHineS by boScH & SiMMonSInspired by the physicist Nikola Tesla’s legendary experiments in 1896, Bosch & Simons have produced a large series of works based on vibration and resonance. They created installations in museums, at International Symposiums on Electronic Art, concert halls and international electronic music conferences around the world. They turn their extensive artistic research into complex, unpredictable systems and unstable balances, into pieces which are part physics experiments and part new-media installations.Code: BOS-Music Uni £125 / School £75

The series “Kiss of Art” is about a romance between art and technology, it is a tale of a human in love with a machine. Each episode attempts to capture the fleeting moment of fascination and genius present in the process of artistic exchange. The contemporary muse breaks free of conventions, her kiss of art does not discern between robot engineers, conceptual animators or graphic designers. Such ephemeral instances of warmth can now be communicated between a machine and a human by means of intuitive interfaces. The impulse of our touch can incite a hybrid plant to sing in response and the digital video technology admits us entry into the world of exciting and dangerous new ecologies. Kiss of Art is a series of contemporary art inspiration and creative brilliance. Each Volume features 3-4 artists through interviews. Each 30-40 minute episode presents a series of interviews with contemporary artists intercut with images and recent footage of their work. The interviews provide insight into why, how and for whom these artists create their work, and where their passion and artistic inquiries originate from. Where are the boundaries between science, technology, politics, popular culture and art? Viewers are challenged with the question while witnessing the free flow of imagination.

Since the 1960s, Takahiko Iimura’s explorations of the moving image have probed the relationship between media, time and language and have strived to redefine the exhibition of cinema as a mode of performance. He has worked closely with the giants of experimental film such as members of the Hi-Red Centre and Fluxus, Yoko Ono, Jonas Mekas, John Cage, Stan Brakhage and Stan Vanderbeek. His uncompromising work, here presented on DVD, bridges boundaries between film and performance art.

SUPPORTING ART EDUCATION SUPPORTING ARTISTS

Contemporary Arts Media - artfilms international - is a production and distribution company of films about and for arts. The company has been advocating arts education, supplying resources for arts curriculum, supporting artists and independent producers for more than ten years. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Artfilms has become a global company reaching a wide range of educational institutes, artists and art lovers worldwide.

ARTFILMS EUROPEWe are pleased to introduce to you Artfilms Europe. The new British company has been established with the aim of providing direct customer service to schools and universities in the United Kingdom and Europe and, as a publisher and producer, to keep up-to-date relationship with European artists and art organizations. From its office in London, Artfilms Europe will offer the same collection of DVDs as its Australian Artfilms International with the additional benefits of real time communication, lower shipping costs and faster service. But most importantly, we will be able to offer a more flexible price structure and larger discounts to European and UK schools and educational institutions. SUPPORTING ART EDUCATION – “educating citizens”Technology develops with accelerating speed as do the cognitive processing abilities of the internet generation. At the UNESCO’s First World Congress for Arts Education in 2006 in Lisbon, educators, government representatives and scientists emphasised the importance of teaching arts in bringing up new generations. It was concluded that arts education is an essential component of holistic learning because it enhances self-esteem, a sense of identity, unity and diversity, improves the ability to handle changes in a dynamic society, enables the appreciation of heritage and the creation of future heritage, design and production. Creativity and imagination increases individuals’ potential to survive, be more productive and inventive in work and in life in general. Arts education helps to develop and maintain a healthy balance between cognitive and emotional, encourages freedom of expression, improves linguistic skills and stimulates social responsibility and spiritual growth. ARTFILMS AND ITS CUSTOMERSArtfilms Europe can be contacted by email, telephone or fax. We are happy to give information and advise. Please sign up to our mailing list so we can send you updates about the latest releases. You will be also included in our end of year draw for a HD video Camera. Operating from a UK based office enables Artfilms to focus on topics of the different school curricula, and also to offer tailor-made selections for the individual educational institutes.
