BRIDGEPORT RENOVATION PROJECT
Great news! We passed the State of Michigan licensing inspections and can officially open the
newly renovated section of Bridgeport. Early this month we will begin moving residents who
have been waiting for long-term care beds. The social work team will be contacting residents
and families to discuss the move date.
We hope you enjoy the improvements that have been made to the living, dining and activity
spaces for our residents. Please feel free to contact your social worker or nurse manager with
any questions related to the move. Your patience during this process has been deeply appreciated.
WE SALUTE Marwood’s Recognition Program
Have you had an excellent experience with a staff member, volunteer or
physician? If so, we want to hear about it! WE SALUTE forms can be found in
the display racks in the main lobby and on Independence Pointe. Simply fill out
the form and drop it in any one of the suggestion boxes located throughout the
building.

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION
Marwood Nursing & Rehab will host
their annual holiday celebration on
Sunday, December 2, 2018
from 2:30 – 3:30
for our residents and their loved
ones. Please mark your calendars to
join us in your neighborhood for some
refreshments and live music.
Holiday Decorations:
Many of us like to get into the spirit of the holidays by
decorating. Please make note of the following
requirements in our building:
Live plants may not have lights on them.
Wreaths and decorations should be fire retardant.
This means we can not allow wreaths or decorations
of formerly live plants due to fire safety protocols.
Not more than 1/3 of a wall space may be decorated
(including doors).
Thanks for your help in keeping our residents safe.
Resident Profile...Betty Grattan Betty was born and raised in Port Huron. She has many memories of her
dad’s stories while she was growing up. One of her favorites was
listening to her dad tell her of his workings with Buffalo Bill and Annie
Oakley. Betty married Don, whom she had a big crush on. He was her
brother’s best friend. Everyone in Betty’s neighborhood thought she
would marry Kenny, a boy from the neighborhood she always hung out
with. They just assumed that when they got older, the two would marry,
but one day Kenny didn’t want to take Betty to the fair, so Betty’s
brother said “Fine, Don why don’t you take her.” And that’s all it took.
Betty and Don had five children, and loved that their children and their
friends were always at their house. They had the house and the yard for
the kids to play in, which included a juke box and an ice rink outside in
the winter. The kids could have fun and do whatever they wanted, except
come into the house with their ice skates uncovered Betty laughed. Betty
and Don loved to read and would often read research books on topics
that caught their interest. As their children grew older, Betty would
spend her time volunteering at hospitals visiting patients. She always had
a passion to walk and would often walk 10-15 miles a day. She loved
photography and is also an avid bird watcher. Betty has had some
interesting experiences and challenges in her life. One being that she was
struck by lightning more than once. In one experience from being struck,
her legs where tingly and the friends were upset with her because the
puddle they were playing with dried up. Another after feeling the effects through the window she was
sitting next to, the pen in her hand melted. Betty jokes and says “it’s pretty safe to sit next to me in a storm though.”
Betty uses her humor and faith to get her through everything and “keep on keeping on.” She enjoys living at Marwood
and having her sister Alma, just down the hall from her. If you find yourself on Dove, stop in and say hello…
