Alois 40 to spend some of his father's money, and having met, is wooing Kondja's dearest friend. Midili. For him there seems no way out but an elopement- western fashion. And he and Midili take that way. Circumstances force him to leave behind Bob, his valet, tat circumstances being the sweet young things in Kondja's entourage whom Bob, each and severally, has asked to marry him—and who are willing. Kondja sees her husband for the first time at the wedding ceremony. She is half-won by his charm. But learning that the poet she thinks she loves Is leaving Stamboul by the 11 o'clock train that very night, manages to elude her husband, lock him in his palace and take the express for the Riviera where she hopes to meet her love-lilting wooer. Bob is lucky enough to escape at the same time. The scene turns to the Riviera. In a fashionable hotel Kondja Gul, who has failed to find the poet on the train —asks for him. He has reserved rooms for himself and wife—she is told—but has not yet appeared. Crushed by the news of the wife she does not know which way to turn. Later she encoun- ters Midili and her American husband. Bob arrives, together with pursuing beauties from Stamboul. The complica- tion become more involved when Rod- ney .Smith, father of the newly wed American drops in on the scene, for the son is afraid to tell him of his marriage. Ultimately Achmed arrives looking for the truant Kondja Gul. She confesses that she has fallen in love with the poet. And he proves to her that the poet Is none other than himself. Immediately following "The Rose of Stamboul" Municipal Opera will pre- sent "The Honeymooners" a charming operetta of the Viennese type by Ed- mond Eysler, and a work which al- though a brilliant success in Europe has had but one performance in Ame- rica. That was given merely under con- tract to hold the copyright until a Broadway production of the work could be given—and that Broadway presentation is scheduled for next faH. St. Louis. July 5—One of the greatest international operetta successes of re- cent years, "The Rose of Stamboul" comes to the Municipal theatre next Monday evening, to continue for a week, and to succeed on Municipal Opera's great revolving stage, "The Desert Song." which with Charlotte Lansing as Margot and Leonard Cee- ley as "The Red Shadow,"—roles In which they had great Broadway tri- umphs—has' its last performance next Sunday evening. "The Rose of Samboul" has for the musical accompaniment to its bubbling merriment one of the most melodious scores ever provided by the great Vien- nese composer Leo Fall, which has been enriched by several numbers by Sigmund Romberg, the composer of "Blossom Time," "The New Moon" and "The Desert Song." Gorgeous costumes and with a brilliant and colorful scenic setting especially designed for the open air Municipal theatre by Watson Bar- ratt, who created the original New York production, It is to be presented by a brilliant stellar cast Including Leonard Ceeley, Harry K. Morton, George Hassell, Manilla Powers, Carl Randall and Barbara Newberry, to- gether with Hope Emerson, Genevieve McCormick, Frederic Persson, Marie Wilklns, Ruth Rathbell and many others. The modern Near East, the femin- istic post-war Turkey, is the scene of "The Rose of Stamboul," although the romance developed there moves rapid- ly to Its merry denouement in the fashion center of Europe—The Rivie- ra. Her father, Kernel Pasha, has de- creed that Kondja Gul must marry Achmed Bey, a young diplomat, but the lovely Konja has availed her- self of the new freedom to read about western ways. And in part to adopt them. The edict that she must wed comes as a sad surprise, for Kondja Gul is in love with a poet—whom she has never Been. She knows his works, almost bj heart. She has written to him of her admiration. Their correspondence, nur- tured thus in mystery had been the food of love. Meantime a young American, How- ard Rodney Smith has visited Turkey To guarantee, as nearly as possible, that every quart of milk offered in Illinois as pasteurized is thoroughly safe and sanitary, the mobile labora- tory of the state department of public hearth is embarking on a tour into all sections of the state. The laboratory on wheels will be fully manned and equipped to perform the required analysis. NOTICE TAXPAYERS Second installment payable during July—delinquent August 1, 1932. to spend some of his father's money, and having met, is wooing Kondja's dearest friend. Midili. For him there seems no way out but an elopement-western fashion.

Later she encounters Midili and her American husband. Bob arrives, together with pursuing beauties from Stamboul. The complication become more involved when Rodney .Smith, father of the newly wed American drops in on the scene, for the son is afraid to tell him of his marriage. Ultimately Achmed arrives looking for the truant Kondja Gul. She confesses that she has fallen in love with the poet. And he proves to her that the poet Is none other than himself.

Immediately following "The Rose of Stamboul" Municipal Opera will present "The Honeymooners" a charming operetta of the Viennese type by Ed-mond Eysler, and a work which although a brilliant success in Europe has had but one performance in America. That was given merely under contract to hold the copyright until a Broadway production of the work could be given—and that Broadway presentation is scheduled for next faH.

"ROSE OF STAMBOUL" AT MUNICIPAL OPERA

JOINS EAST AND WEST

Leonard Ceeley Heads Brilliant Cast in Merry Romance of Feministic

Turkey which Has Colorful and Tuneful Setting.

St. Louis. July 5—One of the greatest international operetta successes of recent years, "The Rose of Stamboul" comes to the Municipal theatre next Monday evening, to continue for a week, and to succeed on Municipal Opera's great revolving stage, "The Desert Song." which with Charlotte Lansing as Margot and Leonard Ceeley as "The Red Shadow,"—roles In which they had great Broadway triumphs—has' its last performance next Sunday evening.

"The Rose of Samboul" has for the musical accompaniment to its bubbling merriment one of the most melodious scores ever provided by the great Viennese composer Leo Fall, which has been enriched by several numbers by Sigmund Romberg, the composer of "Blossom Time," "The New Moon" and "The Desert Song." Gorgeous costumes and with a brilliant and colorful scenic setting especially designed for the open air Municipal theatre by Watson Bar-ratt, who created the original New York production, It is to be presented by a brilliant stellar cast Including Leonard Ceeley, Harry K. Morton, George Hassell, Manilla Powers, Carl Randall and Barbara Newberry, together with Hope Emerson, Genevieve McCormick, Frederic Persson, Marie Wilklns, Ruth Rathbell and many others.

The modern Near East, the feministic post-war Turkey, is the scene of "The Rose of Stamboul," although the romance developed there moves rapidly to Its merry denouement in the fashion center of Europe—The Riviera.

Her father, Kernel Pasha, has decreed that Kondja Gul must marry Achmed Bey, a young diplomat, but the lovely Konja has availed herself of the new freedom to read about western ways. And in part to adopt them.

The edict that she must wed comes as a sad surprise, for Kondja Gul is in love with a poet—whom she has never Been. She knows his works, almost b j heart. She has written to him of her admiration. Their correspondence, nurtured thus in mystery had been the food of love.

Meantime a young American, Howard Rodney Smith has visited Turkey
