Unique burn-in

Kineticon's newburn-in test system

allows full functional test during burn-in.

Kineticon has introduced a burn-in testsystem that allows for full functional testduring burn-in. Both the drive electronicsand DUTs are on the same PCB, eliminat-ing through-wall connectors. The result ishigh-speed signal integrity, quality, andclarity, with greater device drive capability. The design features clock circuitry at the

logic end of the board, from simple staticburn-in to complex burn-in test. Connec-tors are limited to the sockets in an elevatedenvironment. A 75-mm silicon foam in-sulation wedge allows drive-circuit-to-socket connections to pass through whilesealing the penetrated chamber wall.

Each system module contains a carriageand tray module that accommodates up to40 burn-in boards simultaneously. Twoboards can rest side-by-side. Boards movein and out according to instructions pro-grammed into the system's Test SystemManager (system controller). The operatornever touches the boards after they arepositioned until they are ejected and cooled. The Test System Manager holds a library

of previously created patterns and controlsall burn-in test functions.

GenRad has introduced a product thatlinks its test-data management system totest systems from other ATE vendors. Ithas also introduced a software enhance-ment package to its Test and RepairAnalysis/Control System (TRACS) thatallows users to create customized reportsduring manufacturing. The Intelligent Communications Con-

centrator, with its general-purpose testerinterface (GPTI) application software linksnon-GenRad test systems to TRACS.DataTrace-32 allows TRACS users toanalyze relationships within TRACS dataand create customized reports. TRACS isan automated data management systemthat provides reports of PCB failures, yields, and trends and identifies criticalboard manufacturing problems.

Thermal inducing systemThe ThermoSocket thermal inducing sys-

tem from Temptronic permits the thermalconditioning of components in a socket forfault isolation in numerous applications.Resolution is 0.1 ° C, making it suitable forsubmicron fault isolation.

A useful application of the systems is inconjunction with liquid crystals to locatehot spots on a chip. The system providestemperature control to monitor the nematicto isotropic transition phase of liquidcrystals applied to a microcircuit surface.

ICC is a distributed processing node thatmanages the asynchronous communicationrequired to collect real-time test data fromnon-GenRad-manufactured board testers, service testers, and system testers into acentral TRACS.When configured with GPTI software

and GRnet, GenRad's LAN, ICC operateseight RS-232-C/432-C serial I/O ports toconnect up to eight systems. The com-munication link is provided through GRnetand either the GRnet network interfacemodule or Ethernet hardware.DataTrace-32 is priced at $25,000. ICC

with GPTI software is priced from $13,000to $38,000, depending on configuration.Contact GenRad, 300 Baker Ave., Con-cord, MA 01742; (617) 890-4900.

ThermoSocket consists of a micropro-cessor-based temperature controller andzero-insertion-force sockets with standardpin spacings. Temperature-controlled heatexchangers provide a controlled environ-ment of 0'C to 150°C.A typical fault-locating setup costs $5000,

including the controller, the assembly tohold the device at a controlled temperature, and the ThermoJogger temperature stepper.Contact Temptronic, 55 Chapel St., New-ton, MA 02158; (617) 969-2501.
