TMY Datasets

• The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) releases Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) weather data every 15 years. The latest dataset, TMY3, was released in May 2008

• The TMY datasets are:– TMY1 1952-1975 234 Sites 22 NW Sites– TMY2 1961-1990 239 Sites 25 NW Sites– TMY3 1991-2005 1020 Sites 77 NW Sites

• NW sites limited to WA, OR, ID, and MT

Page 3: New TMY Weather Data Larry Palmiter and Ben Larson August 4, 2008 Ecotope Inc

Northwest TMY3 Data

• There are two important features of the Northwest TMY3 data:– There is a large increase in the number of stations

giving much better geographical coverage. – The TMY3 data show reduced heating degree days

and actual heating loads in nearly all Northwest locations. The cooling degree days and loads show less change.
