Kids and parents alike can't wait to make a trip to Star Provisions.

Since opening in January of 2000, Star Provisions has been Atlanta’s go-to gourmet market for fresh baked breads and pastries, locally grown organic produce, herbs and spices, rare pack-aged foods, house cured salamis, local organic poultry and more than 200 varieties of cheese. The market also sells Atlanta’s fi nest house dry aged meats, fresh seafood, foie gras, and gourmet coffees and teas.

But what really sets Star Provisions apart is the wild and whimsical sense of humor that informs its product selection and merchandising. Inside Star Provisions To Go, jars upon jars of iconic candies delight the eye: Red Hots, Necco Wafers, Wax Bottles,

Mary Janes, Sour Gummies and more. Mouths water and little hands press against the pastry case window as kids glimpse fresh baked cupcakes, brown-ies, blondies, cakes, cookies and tarts. Discover baskets fi lled with delight-ful surprises scattered throughout the shop: wood-boxed crayon pencils, 3-D puzzles, whistles and all kinds of fun stuff. Kids will fall in love with the ador-able stuffed possum, bunny, dog and kitty “ragamuffi ns” by Crispina, made from 100% recycled textiles.

Food From Farm To TableFind two different takes on farm-to-table fare at Westside Urban Market

There is a lot of talk these days about the

ecological and gastronom-ic benefi ts of eating food that is seasonal and locally grown. Bacchanalia and JCT. Kitchen at Westside Urban Market offer two very tasty takes on “farm to table” fare.

Rated Atlanta’s #1 res-taurant by Zagat, Bac-chanalia sets the standard for fi ne dining in Atlanta,

featuring award-winning contemporary American cuisine from chefs/owners Anne Quatrano and Clif-ford Harrison. Quatrano and Harrison live along-side a slew of messy free-range chickens on their organic farm, Sutherland. Many of the ingredients on Bacchanalia’s menu come directly from their own farm. Choose from a four-course prix fi xe menu, which includes an

appetizer, entrée, cheese and dessert course for $75. For an even more upscale experience, try Quinones at Baccha-nalia, an elegant dining space with an exquisite 10-course pre-set tasting menu of classic Southern dishes. Coming Spring 2009, Quatrano and Har-rison will open Abattoir, a “meat-centered” res-taurant concept at White Provision.

For a more casual take on farm-to-table cuisine, try Chef Ford Fry’s latest invention, JCT. Kitchen. Chef Fry describes his authentic cuisine as “Southern Farm-stead Cooking” and his menu features signature Southern dishes such as Springer Mountain Fried Chicken, Shrimp & Grits featuring Tim & Alice’s Red Mule grits, and Beef Short Ribs with brown

butter-potato puree and “pot roast” vegetables, all prepared with classic European techniques. For dessert, try the Meyer Lemon doughnuts or the Ginger Bread Pudding.

“Farmstead is a culinary term currently used in artisan cheese making. I like the word because it indicates hand-crafted food and the use of local farms; it speaks of sea-

sonal, fresh ingredients,” explains Chef Fry, for-merly corporate chef of EatZi’s Market & Bak-ery.

Whether you choose fi ne dining or upscale comfort food, you’ll fi nd plenty of seasonal, local fare at JCT. Kitchen and Bac-chanalia Restaurant in Atlanta’s Westside Urban Market.

Throughout October, Atlanta Cel-ebrates Photography will present

its 10th annual month-long, city-wide photography festival. White Provision Residences will host an exclusive fi ve week photography exhibition at its elegantly designed sales center, featur-ing work by Todd Murphy and Jack Spencer. Curated by Jackson Fine Art, the exhibition will run 10/30-12/05/08. Malia Stewart Schramm of Jackson

Fine Arts says, “What is so great about this project with White Provision is that people will be able to experience pho-tography outside of the white walls of the gallery and inside of a living space.”

To kick off the exhibition, White Provi-sion Residences will host an opening reception on Thursday, October 30 from 7 - 9 p.m. Learn more at whitepro-vision.com.Todd Murphy, Untitled #13
