A reporter mentioned that due to the 2020 health crisis, this would be the first time in thehistory of our country that Easter would not be celebrated. From one perspective, what thereporter said was accurate. Certainly, community Easter egg hunts were canceled. Partiesfeaturing a guy in a bunny suit prancing around distributing candy would be missed. Littlegirls in brand new dresses would not be arriving in church in all their glory and cute littlegirlish display. The traditional Easter feast was either canceled or exponentially scaled backto immediate family members only. I am certain that is what the reporter had in mind.
But for those who take the gospel narrative seriously, Easter as a special day, is incidentalto the fact of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Every day we rejoice in a resurrectedSavior who “was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification” (Ro-mans 4:25). Jesus died for our sins and arose from the dead in order that we might possessrighteous standing before a holy God. This makes celebrating a particular day of extraneousand indeed, frivolous activities, a bit irrelevant.
