NEW YORK YOUTH JOBS PROGRAM Information for Businesses First launched in 2012, the goal of the New York Youth Jobs Program is to help young people entering the world of work have a successful start. Participants receive critical workforce skills that will serve them well into their careers, and participating businesses receive tax credits upwards of $7,500 per eligible hire. Initially limited to 13 target areas, the program was re-authorized through 2022 and expanded statewide. WHAT IS AVAILABLE? • $20 million in tax credits for businesses hiring youth residing in the 13 target areas • $20 million in tax credits for businesses hiring youth residing in the remainder of New York State WHO IS ELIGIBLE? • All businesses with a physical location in New York State that are in good legal standing • All youth ages 16-24 residing in New York State HOW TO APPLY Businesses must be certificated to participate in the New York Youth Jobs Program. To apply for certification, businesses must complete an online application by November 30: www.labor.ny.gov/youthjobs. Businesses that certified for the program in previous years may re-certify by updating their contact information and attesting to the Terms of Service Agreement. A business can only claim the tax credit on program eligible hires – new hires ages 16 to 24 that have been certified to participate in the program. The Department of Labor will refer certified candidates that are the best fit for your openings. If a business finds candidates through other avenues, Labor Department staff can help get them certified for the program. Please Note: A business may not ask a certified youth why they are eligible to participate in the program, as that is confidential information. The certified youth must start work between January 1 and December 31. CREDIT AMOUNTS FULL TIME (35+ HOURS PER WEEK) $7,500 MAXIMUM • $750 per month, maximum six months ($4,500 maximum) • $1,500 if the youth is retained for six months beyond the first six months of employment (employed one full year) • $1,500 if the youth is retained for a second full year of employment PART TIME (20-34 HRS/WK OR 10-34 HRS/WK IF ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL) $3,750 MAXIMUM • $375 per month, maximum six months ($2,250 maximum) • $750 if the youth is retained for six months beyond the first six months of employment (employed one full year) • $750 if the youth is retained for a second full year of employment If the amount of the tax credit exceeds your tax liability, you may receive the excess as a refund. If funding becomes fully obligated before the end of the calendar year, the program will be closed. QUESTIONS?
