DESCRIPTION

Newark-upon-Trent Cemetery contains war graves of both world wars. The 1914-1918 War burials number 49, and are in various situations all over the cemetery. After the war a Cross of Sacrifice was erected in the main drive in honour of these men.

GeneralSikorski's remains werereturned to Poland in 1993,but there is still a memorial tohim at Newark.

The 1939-1945 War burialstotal over 480 and all save tenof these graves are in the wargraves plot. The UnitedKingdom and Commonwealthgraves are marked by thetraditional Commissionheadstones, while the Polishgraves have headstonesdesigned to harmonise withthe others.
