From the EL DORADO NEWCOMERS CLUB BYLAWS:
The objective of this Club shall be to welcome new residents to the organization
and to bring together in a friendly fellowship, all residents, old and new, of El
Dorado Hills, and to stimulate their interest in civic, social and educational as-
pects of our community. The Club, as a social organization, may choose one or
more local charities each year to which its members may voluntarily contribute.

As you read this newsletter, October with its ghouls and gob-
lins is wrapping up. Just a few more days until the Kick-Off/
Halloween party at Sequoia in Placerville. Crista and her
committee have worked hard and planned a great night.
Hope to see you there!
I am very happy to announce that Janice Angell has agreed
to return as our Philanthropy chair. Janice will be working
with the Center for Violence Free Relationships, our chosen
charity, and to set up the Adopt-A-Family Tree program
which we enjoyed so much last year. It’s a wonderful way to
help those less fortunate than ourselves and make the sea-
son a bit brighter for all.
Before we know it the holidays will be upon us - Thanksgiving and all that it im-
plies – mounds of delicious food and being especially thankful for family and
friends. Not far behind will be holiday shopping. What better way to get a head
start than to join the ―annual‖ Newcomers San Francisco/Nordstrom shopping
trip on Tuesday, December 1st. Contact Elly Brown, our Special Event chair, to
sign up. We always have a great time as well as put some of the shopping be-
hind us.
Have a fun Halloween and many wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving!

BIG SISTER PROGRAM
Joanne Rice 916.939.5360 [email protected]
The Big Sister mentor program is designed to welcome new members and make them feel a part of
this wonderful organization. Getting involved is how we make new friends. Becoming a Big Sister is
very rewarding. When she is new, you take your Little Sister to activities, introduce her to new
friends and generally extend your warmth and hospitality. If you would like to be a Mentor or are new
and would like to be introduced to a Big Sister, please call Joanne.
MEMBERSHIP
Marcia Frank 916.939.6812 [email protected]
Well, it is finally turning to fall. What a cozy time to meet with friends you already have and to intro-
duce new friends to our Club. Our next Newcomers coffee is an evening event on November 18th at
Shelly Hoenig's home. This is a great time for those who work during the day to join us. Our current
membership is up to 187. I will continue to post names and addresses in the newsletter of new/
renewing members who join during the month so you can update your directories. Please remember
to include new members in your activities and introduce yourself at the luncheons or other social
events.

NOTICE from the Board of Directors:
Several members received a letter in the mail from the El Dorado Food Bank. It would appear that
the Food Bank somehow acquired a copy of our directory, for which we apologize. The Newcomers
board was unaware of this letter until it was received by some of the board members; accordingly it
is not endorsed by the board. Therefore, please use your own judgment on whether or not you re-
spond to this letter.

Janice Angell 530.677.5720 [email protected] The year is off to a great start. The Center for Violence Free Relationships is having their 26th An-
nual Auction Gala at the Mercedes dealership on November 7th. Newcomers is a sponsor of this
event which entitles us to 2 free tickets. A lucky winner will be chosen from our membership to at-
tend with a guest. Good Luck, Ladies. It's a fun time. Tickets are available for purchase at $75 ea.
or $125 for two. Call The Center at 530.626.1450.
Once again this holiday season we will be "adopting" Moms and their children from The Center.
There will be a Christmas tree at the November luncheon that will have tags that will state whether
the gift is for a Mom, Girl or Boy, their ages, and their wishes. You can take as many tags as you'd
like. You then purchase the gift and place it in a gift bag with the original tag taped to your gift
bag. The gifts will be collected at the December luncheon. If you are unable to attend the lunch-
eons and would still like to adopt a child or Mom, please contact me immediately. If anyone would
like to be involved in this project, please let me know.

not yet been to a coffee or know someone who would enjoy
Newcomers, please consider accompanying them to this eve-
ning coffee. This coffee would be a good choice for working
ladies. For more information call me or Marcia Frank at

I was born at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, California. I am a third generation Cali-
fornian. I was raised in the San Fernando Valley when it was beautiful -- horse country
and cornfields. EDH reminds me very much of where I grew up. I graduated with a BS
degree in Nutrition from Washington State University and attended the Yale University
Medical Center Dietetic Internship program in Connecticut. I later received an MBA in
Management from Pepperdine University. When I returned to California from the East, I
met my husband, Ed at a Ski Club meeting and married him one year later (luckily he fell
for me before he found out how poorly I skied!). My career has been very rewarding. I de-
cided to focus on Human Resources, Training and Management Development. I was Vice
President of Human Resources for the Wells Fargo San Francisco Bay Region where I
was responsible for 5000 employees. Most recently, I was the Director of HR, Learning and Development,
Executive Coaching and Organizational Design for Roche Pharmaceuticals in Palo Alto. Ed has been in the
High Tech industry the majority of his career. Most recently he was with Sun Microsystems in the Bay Area.
We moved to EDH from Half Moon Bay over two years ago and we are really enjoying the mountains, lakes,
gold & wine country, the weather and all of the great people we have met. The EDH Newcomers Club has
been great to help us integrate and meet so many new friends. I am pleased to be responsible for the Big
Sister Program because I believe it is very important to help new members feel welcome when joining our
group.
I’ll start with a little history. I was born in Djakarta, Capital of Java in Indonesia. Sukarno,
first President of Indonesia declared Indonesia’s independence in l945, which the Dutch
granted with nominal union to The Netherlands, in l949; Indonesia dissolved this union in
l954 before Gen. Suharto had taken power, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thou-
sands of people. Our family fled the country at that time. We lived in Holland for 6 years,
and then decided to move to the United States in l960 when I was only 10 years old. We
lived in La Crescenta, CA. where I graduated from Crescenta Valley High School in l968.
After graduation I decided to work in banking operations, which has been my career ever
since. I met Dennis, my husband just before I graduated. We got married in l972. We
bought our first house in La Crescenta and lived in it for 28 years. We have two wonderful
children; one boy, Mitchell, and one girl, Mindy.
Dennis and I moved to El Dorado Hills in 2000. Our daughter decided to move with us, but our son decided to
stay in Hollywood. He has a great job working with severely physically handicapped children for Glendale Uni-
fied School District, and has loved it for 14 years. He also has a great love and passion for music. What better
place to be than Hollywood…full of art and music. We just found out we are going to be grandparents for the
first time. Mindy is due in February, 2010. We are all so excited, especially GG (Great Grandma). This will be
her 2nd great-grandchild in a year.
Since I have been unemployed for 1 ½ years, with no luck in finding a part time job, I am so glad to have
joined the Newcomers. I have met some great friends and it has given me the social life and support I
needed.
Dennis and I will be celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary in April. We are hoping to cruise ―The Carib-
bean‖ this time. We’ll see; with the new baby and all, you never know.

I was born in the lovely state of Virginia, but raised here in Los Altos from the age
of two. My two children were born in Santa Cruz and I taught at Santa Cruz High
School for a few years before taking on the challenge of a Technical Instructor for
Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale. Personal Computers were just starting to make
their mark; so much of my work at Lockheed involved converting company wide
operations from paper to computer while serving in Senior Staff positions. I re-
tired after spending 23 years with Lockheed where I met and married my husband,
Bob. We’ve traveled extensively in retirement, both overseas and across America
including a three month golfing trip around the USA. Life is complete with lots of
family – 5 kids & 9 grandkids between us. After my parents passed away we downsized to EDH
leaving most of the kids in the Bay Area; far enough away so as to not be in their way, but close
enough to not be strangers. We find that after 5 years in EDH, we are still discovering fascinating
places, golf courses and wineries within a day’s drive. I am looking forward to spending the next
year as a member of the Newcomer’s Board.

We are a fun-loving group of 12 ladies, who get together
playing Bunco. Bunco is a very simple game to learn
which entails the rolling of dice, but most of all it is a so-
cial group allowing us time to visit, laugh, and enjoy each
others company. There are supposed to be 12 perma-
nent members who rotate hosting the Bunco game. Cur-
rently we have some vacancies. Please call me, if you
are interested in joining our group. If you are new to new-
comers, it is a great way to meet the ladies in the New-
comers group.

gals night out, husbands with different interest or traveling, etc.

GOTG member. Some of our recent events included: ―A trip to
Reno to see Il Divo‖, Pool/BBG party, Concerts at Town Center,
dinner at Café Mahjaic in Lotus, ―Third Saturday Art Walk‖. As
you can see we do have fun and are busy enjoying life. Upcom-
ing plans being researched are: Trip to New York in the Spring, Beach house get away after the

Our group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 A.M.
Please call for information on our next meeting place as we rotate
meeting at a different member’s home each month; or sometimes we
organize a meeting place to carpool to a special event. We discuss
local plants, gardening techniques and exchange ideas and clippings.
We tour each other’s gardens during our meetings. This is informal,
casual, and for fun. We do a few trips to view local area nurseries
and gardens in and around the Sacramento area. If you have any
ideas on wonderful places to visit, please bring the website or infor-
mation to share with the entire group. It does not matter what your yard looks like; we have all levels
of gardening experience

cided on after we get feedback from those that have signed up for this Activity at the September

Governor (fairly strenuous with lots of hills). On Thursdays and Fridays we meet at the CSD parking
lot on the corner of Harvard and El Dorado Hills Blvd (a fairly flat and easy walk). We walk 1 1/2 or 3
miles (your choice) at a moderate pace of about 20 minute miles. Time to get in shape. The holi-
