WELCOME to Newlands School

All children come with an intense curiosity about the world around them. Whilst their imagination, creativity

and a fresh take on the way things work is something that all children have in common, they will also have

particular strengths, interests and passions that make them individuals.

At Newlands, we believe that one of the main purposes of education is to help these individuals to realise

unique potential. The ‘one size fits all’ approach of traditional schooling overlooks the fact that education

has to be tailored personally. Children learn best, and remain motivated, if they are engaged in what they are

doing and if they have creative ownership of work that is made relevant to them. Our children live in a world

that is more connected and information rich than at any time in history, and their eager engagement with

new technology proves that they have an amazing capacity to learn if the conditions are right.

All staff strive to equip our young people with the right technical and social skills and the best qualifications

for their future lives. There are two challenges here; firstly we have to foster the understanding that what

happens at school is a development of real life, and that their learning is a key to the confusing and exciting

world beyond the front field. Secondly, we have to ensure that our children are readied for a world that does

not yet exist.

The key skills for our childrens’ futures will be the abilities to think laterally and globally, to originate and to

be inventive. In order to engage our students we have creativity as a fundamental core and the concept of

open-ended learning runs through everything we do.

Our mission at Newlands is to produce well-rounded, adaptable, confident and open minded creatives;

the problem-solvers and innovators of their generation.

NURSERY learning through playOur Nursery offers an environment in which children will be safe, stimulated and challenged;a place where fun and enjoyment go hand in hand with learning and discovery. Early childhood is a time of rapid open- minded learning, of vivid imagination and intrigue with the universe andat Newlands, we are very much committed to preserving a child’s right to be playful, have fun and develop at their own pace.

Children experience a variety of learning, allowing them to make use of their absorbent and active minds, encouraging them to express themselves through speech, writing, drawing, movement and drama.

At Newlands, whilst our focus in on learning throughout play, we operate a continual assessment system using the Stepping Stone process from the Qualification and Curriculum Council (QCA), which helps us to guide our curriculum to the required level for each a child.

Newlands is the best decision we could have made – our only regret is not taking it earlier, it’s not only an education, it’s a childhood as well.

Students have the time, the resources and the expert guidance to develop their creativity and fuel their curiosity in the way that suits them best.

We challenge our Sixth Form students to become mature, capable participants in an increasingly challenging society.

University preparation, interview technique and work experience are also supported alongside the students’ academic studies.
