:----Funeral services were held for

Mrs. Tena Melton, 82, Cedar Rap­ids resident, on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the Methodist church in Mechanicsville, Iowa.

Rev. M. C. Melcher, pastor of the church, officiated. Mrs. Glen Strother and Mrs. John Davis Jr., sang, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. C. W. Norris.

Pallbearers were Lowell Kohl, 'DeWitt Kohl, Herbert Kohl, Amos I Kohl, Eugene Kohl, and Eldon '•Kohl.i Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, •Mechanicsville.

OBITUARYTena E. Melton, daughter of

Amos and Maria Kohl was bom in • Jones county, July 21, 1871. She!

‘was the last of a family of nine children, there being four sisters and four brothers preceding her in death.

• She grew to womanhood in the 'White Oak community and united |with the Evangelical church there.

She was united in marriage to George J. Melton on April 27, 1890, They began housekeeping on the Amos Kohl farm in the same com- ; ,‘munity, later moving to a farm •?ast of Mechanicsville. To this union two daughters were bom,

(Alma Simpson who preceded her jin death on November 1, 1924 and iMildred Nightingale of Cedar Rap­ids, Iowa.

In 1914 they retired from the farm, and moved to Mechanicsville where she attended the Methodist church.

Mrs. Melton was a great lover jof flowers, and spent her spare •time in her garden. She was a ‘devoted wife and mother.

( Her husband preceded her in death on March 9, 1945. She leaves to mourn her departure, a daughter Mildred Nightingale and a grand paughter Mildred Oldorf, and three irreat grand children, Glenn, Larry and Edith Oldorf. Also several pieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Tena Kohl April 27, 1890 in Jones County. They quietly celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary

, nearly five years ago. Two daugh­ters came to bless thiB union: ; Alma and Mildred. Alma preceed- <

following the occupation of farm­ing in Jones and Cedar Counties. He was actively engaged in farm­ing east of Mechanicsville until 1914 when the family moved to J Mechanicsville where they have! resided since. ■

He is survived by his life’s com­panion, one daughter Mrs. Mild­red Nightingale of Cedar Rapids, one granddaughter Mrs. Mildred! Oldorf of Alburnett and three great ’ grandchildren; one brother Ora Melton of Cedar Rapids and one sister Mrs. Vesta Hines of Mech-

• anicsville.Mr. Melton was a good neighbor,

always ready to lend a helping hand. He aided a great deal in the building of this church, following the destruction of the previous one ! by fire. ’

Funeral services were held in | lhe Methodist church in Mechanics * ville, Sunday, March 11, 1945 at I 2:30. Clergymen who officiated at the services were Rev. George A. I Stauffacker of Cedar Rapids and Rev. Bernard Kemper. Burial was :n Rose Hill Cemetery at Meehan-.

Death Of Mrs. Robert Melton.

Mrs. Robert Melton died at the Duane Zimmerman home last Thurs­day evening about seven o clock, her death being rather unexpected al­though she had not enjoyed good health for some months. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Zimmerman home, Rev. W. T. Mc­Candless, of the Presbyterian church, conducting the services. Interment

! was made at the local cemetery.Mrs. Melton was the third child

of Duane and Susan Zimmerman and was born in Lancaster county, Penn-. slyvania, January 28, 1844. Her mar-; riage to Robert Melton occurred Aug-1 ust 16, 1863, and to them five chil­dren were born, one, a son, having preceded her in death .in December 1899. The remaining children are George, Roy and Ora, and Mrs. Len Hines of this place; ten grand and • three great grand children, her fath-J er, Duane Zimmerman, two brothers ’ and four sisters* also survive.

Mrs. Melton lived a life of unre­mitting toil and sacrifice for the ben- efit/of those near and dear to her. She

' was a regular and consistent student of her bible and reading that sacred book brought her great consolation and fortitude. /<?

guests of honor Sunday at a fam- Fjily. dinner given for them at the

Palisades lod’ge in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Hudachek and Mrs. Clarence Felsman were hosts. Addi­tional guests were the J. D. Peets' grandson, J. N. Peet, his wife and : two children of Iowa City and Mrs. i J. D. Peet’s brother, G. F. May, and ’ Mrs. May of Anamosa. Since Mr. ’ Felsman could not attend the dinner the group visited him in the hos­pital at Cedar Rapids that after­noon. •

Miss Stella Maud May, whose ‘ home was east of Anamosa, and J. ’ D. Peet of near Martelle were mar­ried Aug. 20. 1901, in the Congre­gational parsonage at Anamosa. Mrs. Peet had been a teacher in 'the Jones county schools prior to her marriage and Mr. Peet was en­gaged in farming.

The couple farmed the parental A. L. Peet farm north of Martelle

’for seven years and then purchas- : ed a farm near Forest Chapel, on i which they lived the next twelve years. Although Mr. Peet is now • retired he still woiks and supei-

b vises daily on the two farms, now ;• rented out. _J

i The Peet family then moved to. Mt. Vernon in order that their chil- !• d^en might attend Cornell and have . the privileges afforded by a col- J lege community. They bought the j former Dr. Hill property on north Seventh Avenue, which is still their : home. ‘

There are five children in the i '•family: Hallie (Mrs. A. E. Kleger) t of Long View, Wash.; N. J. Peet of Iowa City; Hattie (Mrs. Clarence

•: Felsman) of Mt. Vernon; Huldah jof Dallas, Texas, and Helen (Mrs. ;Lafe Hudachek) of near Mechanics- ' | ville. There are three grandchildren i land two great-grandchildren also , i in the family.j . Mr. Peet passed away at St. Luke’s hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sunday evening, Nov. 12, 1961.

Julius Duane Peet elder son of Albert Leroy and Ella Zimmerman Peet was bom Dec. 22. 1876, on a farm in Jones County. After fin­ishing country school he attended the Cedar Rapids Business College, after which he farmed with his father until 1901, when he started farming for himself on what is now the Arnold Lerch farm. On Aug.

; 20, 1901, he was united in marriage to Stella Maud May.

After farming near Martelle for 7 years, they bought a farm in the Forest Chapel community, where they farmed for 12 years. On Feb. 20, 1920, they moved to their pres-1 ent home in Mt. Vernon. After coming here Mr. Peet was a sales­man for the L. M. Peet Manufacture ing Co. of Council Bluffs.

i Mr. Peet was affiliated with the Oddfellows lodge and was a form­er member of the Masonic Order.

Surviving are his wife; a son N. J. Peet of Iowa City; four daughters, Mrs. A. E. Kleger (Hallie) of Long-1 view, Wash., Mrs. C. E. Felsman, (Hattie) of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. A. E. Petermann (Huldah) of LaGrange,Ill., and Mrs. Lafe Hudachek (Hel­en) of Mechanicsville; a grand­daughter Mrs. E. H. Smith of Iowa City; two grandsons J. N. Peet ofi Salem, Ore., and John P. Kleger ' of Longview, Wash., five great grandchildren, Nicki, Steven and Carolyn Peet of Salem, Ore., Dean Smith of Iowa City and Kimberli Anne Kieger of Longview, Wash.

Last Rites Held For ( William Simpson# 81

MECHANICSVILLE - Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a. m. at the Morgan Funeral home, Lisbon, for William Simp­son, 81. The Rev. James Nelson officiated.

Mr. Simpsondied July 26, at the Utopia Nursing Home, Tipton^ after an illness of 2 years.

William Simpson was born the son of George and Mary Simpson on August 25, 1885 near Filey, England. He came to Canada in 1905, moving to Stanwood in 1911 and to Mechanicsville in 1953. He spent the past year and a half at the Utopia Nursing home.

Mr. Simpson was married to Alma Milton on Feb. 14, 1915. They farmed in Jones, Cedar and Linn counties. His wife preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1924.

Survivors include his daughter,Mrs. Wilbur (Mildred) Oldorf; 3

. grandchildren, Glenn Oldorf,Ce­dar Rapids; Larry Oldorf and Mrs. Douglas (Edith Oldorf) Willey, both of Mechanicsville. Also four great-grandchildren,

I lasty and JoAnn Willey and Ann i Michael Oldorf.

One brother and 6 sisters, all who lived in England, preceded

Ralph Willey, Albert Zenishek, Joe Gamble and Pierre Ferguson were pallbearers with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Morgan Funeral Service was in charge.

Mrs. Ella Peet.Mrs. Ella Peet, 79, of 1314 First,

avenue E, died Wednesday at. 12:30 p.m., after having suffered! a stroke. She was born Aug. 8, 1857, near Mechanicsville, was* married in 1875, at White <Oaki Grove, Cedar county, to Albert Le­roy Peet, who died in 1922. She had lived here for the last six-: teen years.
