Klosterfrau Award for ChildhoodAsthma

Aims and Scope: The “Klosterfrau Re-search Award for Childhood Asthma”

will be awarded annually. It will beawarded to researchers in pneumologyand pediatrics whose work is oriented tothe better understanding of childhoodasthma and its treatment.

Forty thousand Swiss francs will beawarded to one person or team, with thestipulation that 30,000 Swiss francs bespent for further research.

Authors who have published a scientificpaper in this area within the last 2 years orwhose paper has been accepted for publi-cation are entitled to submit an applica-tion. Papers published in English will bepreferred. References from a third partyare not required. Excluded are papers thathave already been submitted for a prize.

Decisions are made by an internationaljury consisting of 5 experts from 5 differ-ent countries.

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund is cur-rently accepting applications for its 2001Charles E. Culpeper Scholarships inMedical Science Program, designed tosupport the career development of acad-emic physicians.

Up to 4 awards of $100,000 per year for3 years will be made to US medical schoolsor equivalent US educational institutionson behalf of candidates who are US citi-zens or aliens who have been granted per-manent US residence (proof required);who have received their MD degree froma US medical school or the equivalent of anMD degree from an educational institutionequivalent to a US medical school in 1992or later (except under extraordinary cir-cumstances, as approved by the Fund be-fore submittal); and who are judged wor-thy of support by virtue of the quality oftheir research proposals. All scientific re-search relevant to human health is eligiblefor consideration. No institution may nom-inate more than one candidate.

In selecting awardees, emphasis will beon identifying young physicians with clearpotential for making substantial contribu-tions to science as academic physicians.
