CALENDAR OF THE SOUL ___________________________________________________________________________________ From deep in my heart this world I love – The green, green hills and the mountains above, The sea so blue and the sunlight gold, And everything that I behold. And I become stronger as I grow, For all of God’s Angels are with me I know. Angels of water, fire, earth and air, Always stay by me. This is my prayer.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CHATTER

_________________________________________________________________________________ “Spring is here, spring is here, flowers are waking too,

Daisies, lilies, daffodils all are coming through, all are coming through.”

Spring Festival Thursday 22nd September, 10:20 – 12:30

Just when you thought Festivities had finished, our own Kindy Spring Festival popped out of our flower filled gardens. The morning togetherness starts at 10:20 for garland making, everyone is to be adorned to share in the joy and delight of spring. The gardens will then be blessed with some spring planting time. Next there will be time to spot the butterflies whilst you all enjoy your picnics in the Kindy gardens. Bells will chime when it’s time to put a spring in your step for a number of spring dances with your children inside. Lastly each Kindy and playgroup will make their way on a “spring bush meander” to their kindy’s favourite place in the bush. A lovely and fitting way to end the morning of springtime joy. Please check you bring flowers for garlands, picnic rug and picnic. If the weather is inclement we will start the gathering at 11:30 on each Kindy verandah. Term 3 is nearly at an end and holiday time will hopefully allow ample rest for everyone to get rid of those “change of season” bugs. If they get hit with colds and flus over the holidays, please be reassured that you are doing the right thing as parents even if it means they miss the first couple of days of school. Enjoy your family time together, dappled with some plays and friends. Don’t despair and feel you need to rush in and entertain your child when the cry of “I’m bored!!” goes out. This is a great time for your child to delve deep and after contemplating their navel fluff or the spring dust fairies dancing in the sunlight, their minds will begin to turn something into fun. This is how we can nurture creativity in our children, it is amazing to see what comes out.

Spring Joy to you all. Warm Regards from the Silver Tree Early Childhood Team

Rainbows harvesting fresh potatoes on Friday in Marri Kindy. Daisy Chains a plenty. Such wonderful childhood memories. A team effort creating springtime waterfalls to water the plants.

_________________________________________________________________________________ PATHFINDERS NEWS

PATHFINDERS RIDE TO SAINT GEORGE’S CATHEDRAL On the 30th August, the Pathfinders made their way into the city for their very first excursion! This was a momentous occasion for the class as it was their first time travelling on the school bus for a day trip with their classmates. We visited Saint George's Cathedral as part of our Saints Main Lesson, which the children have really enjoyed. The class were taken aback by the beautiful stained glass windows and giant bell tower. They even got to ring the bells after climbing the steep narrow stairwell to the bell ringers' room. After ringing the bells, hearing the story of Saint George and trying on some interesting bishop's clothing, the children treated the other cathedral visitors to two songs; "Now I Walk in Beauty" and "Let Me for God A Fighter Be". Light streamed forth through the cathedral windows as the children sang and a couple of parent volunteers quickly wiped away a tear or two. Needless to say, we had a great day out and a very musical bus ride back to school with all the singing that took place.

PATHFINDERS CLASS CAMP The countdown began with twenty four sleeps and finally the big day arrived. The classroom was emptied of all chairs and desks, then transformed into a giant bedroom for the night (how exciting!!) Once afternoon tea was consumed, the children were treated to a much-needed calming Yoga session with Donna, which they thoroughly enjoyed. After Yoga, we all gathered together to make our very own pizzas which took a great deal of juggling for all the adults involved! After dinner, we made our way to the camp fire that Toby helped the children to build and light. We sang round the camp fire and waited for it to get dark enough to head off on our big night time adventure. Our wonderful bush walking guide Bronwyn took us on an imaginative journey, imagining what it would be like to be a nocturnal creature. By the time the sun went down completely, the Pathfinders had their torches at ready for our great night time bush walk! We walked along the fire break path and down the hill until the adults decided to make use of mother moon (since she was so full) and asked the children to turn off all their torches. This was very exciting indeed and there were many mixed reactions, as you can all imagine. Some things the children said whilst bush walking: "I already see a night time creature - it's a spider!" "What's that? Oh it's a branch from a tree." "I SEE A BANDICOOT!" "I'm scared, can we go back?" "My torch is so dim!" "This is so much better than in the day time." "I see the city lights!" "Is that really the city lights?" "What do you mean by light pollution?" Once we returned to school, we sat around the warm blazing camp fire and drank hot chocolate and ate some yummy raw slice. This was the calm before bed time and many children were ready to lay down their sleepy heads. Paul treated the children to the story of "Blossom Possum" and Taryn followed this with our current story book "Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator". Soon enough, some children cuddled in bed and fell sound asleep, whilst others craved for a midnight snack and a hundred toilet excursions (of course!) When morning finally arrived and breakfast was consumed, the adventure continued around the camp fire, where some children excitedly blew on the hot coals and reignited the flames! Such excitement ensued across the group and they scrambled to grab some extra bread to toast over the fire. None of this would have been possible without the wonderful guidance and supervision of Toby, who made it his job to keep the children out of danger and mischief whilst Mei, our breakfast queen toasted all of the toast and Bonnie occupied the girls with board games. Once the parents came to fetch their "survivors", the school was silent once more and cockatoos could be heard in the distance, nesting. The adults managed to catch up on some sleep that next night, hopefully!!
