LAFAYETTE CHAMBER Promote a Vibrant Local Economy | Foster Collaboration & Leadership | Influence Public Policy | Support Local Education NEWS LETTER January / February 2018 Realtor Dana Green picked as the 2018 Business Person of the Year If you don’t recognize this name, you really need to get out more often. Dana has been the leading real estate agent in Lafayette for a decade and her love for Lafayette knows no bounds. Who knew the same streets she walked down as a child would one day be the place she would decide to do business and always with a smile. I know many realtors that would be on cloud 9 to have two or three listings going at once. Dana currently has 7 homes she and her team work on selling. They say “if you want something done, ask somebody that’s busy”. Being #1 is rewarding to Dana, but being involved with the community is just as important. Dana is happy to share her success with many non-profits and their projects. Among those are the Lafayette Juniors, Lafayette Chamber, Lafayette Library and Learning Center, Lafayette Partners in Education, Boy Scout Troop 204, Children’s Hospital in Oakland and of course the new Holiday Tradition – “It’s A Wonderful Life in Lafayette.” How does she do it? Passion for her clients and community and the help of one amazing team. Together they have helped shape the this little town into something we are all proud of. Help us celebrate Dana’s contributions by joining us for a dinner in her hon- or. The Business Person of the Year, Mayor Tatzin’s State of the City Ad- dress and the introduction of our 2018 Board of Directors under the leader- ship of Kathy Merchant, will take place on February 2nd at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. Reservation forms can be found in this newsletter, or register at bit.ly/2018bpoy. Thank you Dana! Meet your New Chamber President – Kathy Merchant A strange 2017 it was at the Lafayette Chamber. We started with the “Mother” of all Eucalyptus Trees falling in the Chamber parking lot taking out 9 cars, but no inju- ries. Then the fire that took out the building. Again no injuries. We needed some good mojo to come our way. The summer con- certs were great. The Art & Wine had perfect “Chamber” weather and we saw our big- gest event yet. Really nice weather for the Res Run and our Holiday Celebration in the Plaza. Keeping the good luck going we got Kathy Merchant to be our incoming Presi- dent. Kathy has been serving on our board representing Las Trampas. A Stanford Grad- uate who worked for 6 years on our Down- town Specific Plan, Co-chaired the Capitol Campaign for the Library & Learning Center, served as the first President of the Board of Trustees, and then continued on as the Ex- ecutive Director of the LLLC Foundation. She then moved on to Las Trampas where she served as Development Director. Now not only do we get Kathy’s leadership skills, we get her vault of knowledge and experience in giving vision to many organizations. With the new office comes new opportunities and goals. We are so honored to be working with Kathy. Now we just need to be able to keep up with her. Congratulations Kathy! A strange 2017 it was at the Lafayette Chamber. We started with the “Mother” of all Eucalyptus Trees falling in the Chamber parking lot taking out 9 cars, but no inju-ries. Upcoming Workshops

Are you looking to grow your business in 2018? The Chamber offers a variety of educational and interactive forums. You can check out our Young Professionals Group on meetup.com. They meet once a month at dif-ferent venues switching from social/networking meet-ings to hosting speakers every other month. We offer the Lamorinda Small Business Forums once a quarter in the evenings presented by the Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga Chambers. Our first event this year will focus on Business Recovery. A topic that is pretty familiar to the Lafayette Chamber this year. How did we continue on without missing a beat? Come find out how to protect your business on Thursday, February 8, 5:30pm in the Big Room at Lamorinda Music. And consider joining us for one of our Social Media Workshops. The first one is Wednesday, January 10th at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center. Workshops start at 6:00pm in the Library Homework Center. Our Business Issues Com-mittee meets the 4th Friday of the month at the Chamber. We discuss the issues that affect the business commu-nity often hosting the Mayor for questions and answers. And we still have one hour appointments on Tuesday afternoons with Roy Elliot, our resident SCORE represen-tative covering many of the business questions you have. If you have specific interests, please call and make an appointment with Barbara or Jay. We are always here to help give direction. Drop in, we would love to see you.

Renewing Members Renewed in October & November, 2017Chamber Gives back

Your Chamber of Commerce has been conser-vative with its planning, always ready for that “rainy day.” Well after the fire, one would think that 2017 would need to be a lean year. But in the “spirit” of community, the Chamber was once again able to give back about $58,000 to the community. The big beneficiaries were again our local schools and LPIE. In the last 10 years the chamber has been able to give almost $500,000 back. Thank you for all your help in supporting the worthwhile programs that make our community strong.

New Directory

Yes, we are “OLD SCHOOL” and our residents love it. Every other year we deliver a business and community directory to every household. And unlike the phonebook, residents hold on to this one. Please make sure you check your membership listing with us. Contact [email protected] for more information. You automatically are in the directory. If you would like to buy an ad, now is the time to let us know. Deadline to reserve a spot is Janu-ary 19th. Get famous in your community. Let them know you are here...

Lafayette’s 50thThe City of Lafayette and many commu-nity partners are gearing up to party with all our residents on Sunday, July 29th when we celebrate 50 years as an incorporated city. Planning is underway. Save the date!
