Welcome back to term 3! We have another busy term ahead with lots of exciting learning happening in our classrooms. I would like to say a huge congratulations to Ms Christine Alderson for winning the innovative Technology Trailblazer Award on behalf of our school. Our technology team have been working really hard on supporting future focussed learning and innovation in our classrooms. This term we will be farewelling Mrs Borg and Mrs Caristo as they head off on maternity leave. Further information relating to their replacements will be provided at the conclusion of the recruitment process. I am sure both ladies will have their hands full with their new babies and we wish them all the best! We will also be saying goodbye to Mrs Saeedi at the end of week 2. Mrs Saeedi has been a valued and committed member of the Prairievale community for a number of years and I know she will be sadly missed. Mrs Saeedi will be commencing her new role at a school closer to her home. I would like to also welcome our new School Administrative Officer, Mrs Stephanie Bennett. Mrs Bennett will be starting on Monday, 29th July and I am sure she will be a wonderful addition to our school. Mrs R Challenor

NAIDOC DAY

Our school will celebrate NAIDOC day next Tuesday 30th of July.

The theme this year is Voice, Treaty and Truth.

Students will be taking part in

different Aboriginal games and

activities within their stage groups.

We will also be holding a NAIDOC

assembly at 1:55pm in Area A.

All parents and carers are welcome

to attend and join in our celebrations.

Reminders from the Library Please complete your Reading Logs and hand

them in by Friday 24 August. You need to have

read 20 books from the PRC list if you are in

years 3, 4, 5 and 6. If you are in K-2, your

classroom teachers will complete the Challenge

for you. Don’t forget, many of you may be ready

to receive gold awards if you have completed it

for 4 years. You can check your reading record through My Library in Orbit.

Book Week

Book Character Parade will take place on

Wednesday 21 August after recess in Area A. The

theme this year is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’. A

separate note will be sent home soon. Cannot wait

to see how creative you can get with this idea of a

secret super power!

As part of literacy activities, we plan to write and publish a class book with

personal stories about migration to Australia. We will

only need some simple information about how you got

to be here. Please forward the permission note to the

library as soon as you can. If you have lost it, please

come and collect another copy from the library.

Overdue books

Please return any library books you may have

forgotten to return as yet. It is important that your

children develop a habit of reading, for fun as well as

for information. If they regularly borrow and read a

variety of books you will see improvements in other

subjects too. Here is a great website for you to check

Class in Focus 1L

Students in 1L investigated the various roles within the family in our History

lesson. They compared and contrasted their immediate family with earlier

families through photographs and other sources, discussed similarities and

differences. They went on an excursion last term to Fairfield Museum and

encountered historical concepts of the past and how it has changed.

Class in Focus 5R

In 5R, we have been learning about energy in Science. We have looked at

different types of energy and how it affects the way we live. Students

researched electrical circuits and what components go into making a light bulb

light. They were assigned a research task to design a circuit where they

needed to replace a battery with a fruit/ vegetable. Some groups chose

potatoes while others chose to use lemons. To enhance their learning,

students attended a science incursion to discover more about circuits and how

energy works. Students collaborated together to create their circuits,

unfortunately the circuits did not have the result they were wanting but it gave

the students the drive to try it again at home.

From the Office

Now that the weather is warming up and students are removing jackets and

jumpers during lunch, PLEASE make sure all items of clothing have your

child’s name clearly written in them.

If your child has lost an item of clothing look in the lost property basket in Area

A and check in the classroom.

It is your child’s responsibility to look after their clothing items.

Permission forms and money

When sending money and notes to the office, it is very helpful to put everything

in an envelope or a small plastic bag with the name of the child and class

clearly written on the front. Permission notes NEED to be filled out and signed

by the parent / carer.

Road Safety

When dropping off and picking up children, use the crossing.

Hold the hand of your child when crossing the road.
