Thank you for your attendance at our meet the teachers evening last Wednesday night. This evening was a great opportunity to connect with you all and for you to find out more information about your child’s class and learning team. By now you should have received a copy of your child’s learning team newsletter. All of these letters can be found on our website at: http://greenacres.school.nz/newsletters/ In 2018 copies of any important letters to parents will be found in this folder. A few things I talked about last week: Principal Sabbatical I feel very fortunate to have been awarded a principal sabbatical this year. Principal sabbaticals are available to principals as part of their career development. In Term 3 I will be on leave to engage in a balance of professional learning, reflection and rejuvenation. The focus for my learning will be on exploring effective coaching and mentoring models currently used in schools. Brent McDowell will be acting principal in my absence with Ange Lamb also playing a key role. National Standards As you may have heard the use of national standards is no longer a school requirement. What this actually means is that we no longer have to collect data on each individual child for the Ministry of Education. This change will not affect our day to day work which involves continuing to make sure we know exactly what the learning needs of children are and planning in depth programmes to meet these needs. We will continue to report to you precise information on whether your child is achieving at their expected level, based on the New Zealand Curriculum and using appropriate assessment tools. Waikanae Pool - With improvements in the weather it is most likely that this trip is on, last minute cancellations will be communicated via our Facebook page and email, by 8:30am tomorrow morning. Pest Free NZ Last Wednesday, four students met with Darren from Zealandia to start an initiative to rid Tawa of pests and bring back our native species. Our students learnt all about tracking and setting traps. Zealandia has donated several traps and trackers to Greenacres School and the students are looking forward to setting them up! It is great to see so many Tawa primary schools onboard. If you would like to help you can contact Pest Free Tawa or we can even loan you a trap. Jack, James, Jaedyn, Erzamus, Darren and Lindi Eloff.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, kia ora, malo e lelei, talofa lava, kia orana, namaste, ni hao and welcome to Week 4 of Term 1 2018. Greenacres GalaWe are collecting toys, books, games, and puzzles this week and we wanted to let you know that in previous years we've been very fortunate to receive several high value/near new items. Some items we are able to on sell (at premium prices) prior to the Gala on the Neighbourly and Trademe websites.  We find that with some items, we can get much more money on-line than we can on the day.We are planning on doing this again this year, so don't be surprised if the item you have donated to the gala ends up being sold on those websites.  We've raised an additional $600 doing this so far, which is a fantastic result for the school. Your contributions are very much appreciated!

The winning class for last week’s mystery bottles collection was Kākano 3 - congratulations! Thank you for all your contributions.

Kind Regards

Shirley Porteous Principal
