Everyonecanbehappyiftheychoosetobe.Happinesscanfindyouwhendoingafavoritehobby,anditcanalsofindyouspendingtimewithfamilyandrelatives.Now,it’stimetoturnthatfrownupsidedownandfindoutwhatmakesyouhappy!

PeopleshouldnotthinkthatOctoberisjustfortrick-or-treating.TheyshouldalsothinkabouttheRedRibbonWeekandBreastCancerAwareness.

PeoplecanenjoythemselvesbyconformingtothetraditionofHalloween,butweshouldn’tforgetabouttheotherincrediblethingsthathappeninOctober.

So,youshouldthinkaboutalltheotherthingsgoingonwhileyou’repickingouttheperfectcostume.

Persecution = Bullying Whenyouarepersecuted,yousufferfornotypicalreason.Manykidssufferandgothroughpersecution

atschoolduringtheday.Ifyoudon’tfitinacertaingroup,oryoudon’tdressacertainway,yougetpickedonorpersecuted.Beingbulliedisanexampleofpersecution.Becausesomepeoplewillmakeyousufferifyoudonotlook,act,feel,orevenwalkacertaintypeofway.Ifthesepeopledon’tconform,theygetpersecuted.Theygetpersecutedbecausetheydonotactthesamewayasotherpeople,sotheyareseenasdifferent.

Persecutionisacommonhabittomanyteenagersandadultsthathappensfrequently,andtoooftentotoomanypeople.

Inhisbook,heexaggeratedatthetime,andthatiswhatisscaryaboutthenovel.Everythinghe“exaggerated”overin1953ishappeningintheyear2016.WhenIthinkaboutMildred(acharacterinFahrenheit451),itiskindofscarytoactuallyhavesomeonetorelatehertoo.Someonewhoisalwayspayingattentiontonothingbuttechnology.

Also,conformityistakingover,andtheUnitedStatesisnotacommunistgovernment.But,peoplearesteadilyconformingtothetechnologyandideasofothers.IneverrealizeditbecauseIwasbornintoit.Iwasraisedinaworldoftechnologythatisgettingbiggerandbetter.Therefore,everythingwasnormaltome,butFahrenheit451openedmyeyes.IfRayBradburycanpredictthistechnologyin1953,itisscarytothinkabouttheworldmychildrenwillhavetogrowupin.

PeopleinFahrenheit451believetheknowledgeisbehindthetelevisionwallsandconformtoeveryoneelse.Thissituationisjustlikepeopleintoday’sworld.InthecurrentAmericansociety,peoplebelieveinthepoliticians,thecellphones,thetelevisions,andbasicallywhatevergoesintotheirears.Inbothsituations,theyneverpickupabook,onlytechnology.Therefore,theworldtodayin2016andthe1953book,Fahrenheit451,aresimilarincountlessways.

TechnologyandUs

Conformityhasmadeagreatchangeintheworldtoday.Amajoritemconformityhasaffectedarepeople’sabilitytothinkforthemselves.Conformityandtechnologygohandinhand,andtheychangesocietytogether.Today,peopletryeverythingtolookcool,popular,funny,andsmart.Insteadofusingtheirbrainpowerandtheknowledgegainedfromothersources,childrenoftodayimmediatelygotoGoogle,Firefox,Yahoo,andotherstoanswerthesimplestquestions.Thisactionsoonspreadstootherchildrenbecausetheyfeelasiftheyarenotkeepingupwiththelatesttechnologyorphone.

Thiscanhavemajoreffectsonpeoplebecausetheconformistsmakethemfeellessinformedaboutthequestionsthatwereasked,andthismakesthemwanttobesmartlikeeveryoneelse.Newtechnologiescomeandgo,andpeopleseeotherpeoplewiththesetechnologies.Thissometimesmakespeoplefeelliketheyneedthenewtechaswell.Thisideaspreadsandspreadsuntilitreachesthefarthestpartsoftheglobe.

Ibelievethatgrowthisreferringtopeople’sintellectwhichishaltedbyconformityandtechnology.InanovelcalledFahrenheit451,anovelreadineighthgrade,technologyissocustomaryandhabitualinpeople’severydaylivesthattheyforgettothinkforthemselves.Inasituationlikethis,peopleneverlearnanythingnew,andbecauseeveryoneusestechnology,thepeopledonotseeanythingwrongwithit.

Peopleshouldnotrelyontechnologytothinkforthem.WeshouldneverletourintellectgotowastejustbecauseotherpeopleareflockingtothenextIphone.Peopleshouldneverconformtoasocietythatreliesontechnologytoanswereverysinglethingorcompleteeverylittlechore.Technologyisuseful.However,Ifitisoverusedormisused,itcanbecomeacursethatlimitsourcreativity,knowledge,andsociallives.Doesitlimityouinanyway?

CLOWNS!? Areyouafraidofclowns?Asmostofyouknow,therehavebeencreepyclownssitedalloverthecountry.IsitaHalloweenprank?Or,isitpeoplewhoactuallywanttohurtyou?Haveyoueverthoughtofwhatyouwoulddoifyousawone?

Therearemanyconspiracytheoriesofthese“KillerClowns”.Theyarecreepy,butnobodyreallyknowstherealreasonwhytheyarearound.Somesaytheyhideinthewoodstohurtorstalkyou.Meanwhile,otherssaytheywerejustmadeuptogetpublicityforaremakingofthemovieIt,andithasgottenoutofhand.

SomepeoplesaythattheclownsarearemakingofamannamedJohnWayneGacy,alsoknownas“TheKillerClown”.

Whydoyouguysthinktheclownsarehere?

Whateverreasontheyareherefor,justremembertostaysafeanddonotgointothewoods(ornearaclown)alonethisHalloween.

Beingdrug-freeisextremelyimportantforteensbecausetheyhavetheirwholelivesahead.Onesmalldecisioncanharmyouormanyotherswhenitcomestodrugs.Peoplewhodecidetomaketheselifechangingchoicesareoftenharmed,andRedRibbonWeekhelpsbringawarenessnottodothesedangerousthings.

Ifyoueverwanttobesuccessfulnomatterwhatyouwanttobe,youhavetomakethemostresponsiblechoicesyoucan.Letussayforexample,ifoneday,youseeagroupof“coolkids”,andtheycallyououtbecauseyoudonotdothingstheydo(evenifitmaynotbedrugs).Whatwouldyoudo?Eventhoughyouhavegoalssetforyourfuturelife,wouldyougiveallofthosehopesupforthewrongpeople?Manypeoplemakethatbaddecisiondaily,andalloftheirdreamsareatriskbecauseofthatonebadhabitorchoice.

Besafeanddonotbeoneofthosemanypeople.Staydrugfreeforyourownbenefit.Also,foryourfuture.

It’s Best to be Aware Today, the focus is on the next big thing, but in the month of October, the focus goes to breast cancer. The month of October is breast Cancer Awareness month, and people raise awareness by wearing pink.

Mrs. Chrissy Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer on July 9th. I had a chance to ask Mrs. Kelly a few questions about her experience, and the outcomes were shocking. Mrs. Kelly was sitting in the parking lot of Quitman Junior High when she got “the call”. She said, “I remember thinking -was I going to see my children grow up.” Luckily, she will get to.

Mrs. Kelly took chemotherapy radiation to destroy the cancer. She said, “Receiving chemo treatments was the hardest thing (physically) I have ever been through. It was the “sickest” I have ever been.” She also received surgery to take out the cancerous tumor, but luckily, she persevered through both the chemo and the surgery.

Mrs. Kelly went through some rough things while she had cancer, and everyone should admire her for the way her attitude was never affected by the cancer.

Mrs. Kelly also gave some advice for everyone going through what she went through.

“You have to have a positive outlook. Do everything you can to fight the disease.”

“To other people- you have to take charge of your own health. Do not delay routine doctor visits or tests. Cancer can be treated and cured if caught early. If I would have delayed my mammogram, my outcome could have been different.”

Mrs. Kelly has no idea how much she has affected all of our outlooks on what people have to deal with when they have breast cancer (or any other cancer in general). I, for one, think she is a role model to everyone.

Quitman Junior High Sports Reflection

As a football player, I have learned that to have a successful season takes hard work, attitude, and effort.

Our team at Quitman Junior High School has grown as a whole this year. This year we had a lot of depth. This means that we had many players that would step up and play various positions.

For example, I started at running back, but I also started at outside linebacker.

This ability to be flexible goes along with attitude and effort. These are only a few of the things that our coaches drilled us about.

As basketball practice begins to heat up, our QJHS basketball teams will continue to build off of the lessons that other coaches and sports have taught us.
