Amen Dear Parents/Carers, Entering another week of lockdown brings mixed emotions for children and adults. It is challenging not to be able to have contact with relatives and friends; to celebrate milestones and to engage in the normal routines of school life. While we have become accustomed to this, the thought of spending more time apart is not easy. We all understand the weight of juggling work, home schooling and the sacrifices being made to help our community. This won’t last forever, it’s just different. We will get through it together and be stronger on the other side. Once again I thank you as we partner together to make the most out of this situation for our children, please remember to do what is best for your family. Production Update In the true sense of being optimistic and approaching challenges with a ‘can do‘ attitude we are currently looking at alternative dates to film our production as density regulations have hindered our efforts in being able to allow all in our community to access this event. I’m sure you can appreciate that a great deal of time and effort has been spent by staff, students and families in preparing for this. Continual lockdowns have meant four weeks of rehearsals have been lost and in order to perform with confidence the children need more time to prepare. We are currently engaging with local secondary schools to seek alternative arrangements and dates in order to film this event. The 3rd of September is no longer a viable option for us, however the show must go on and we are determined to keep momentum going in order to seek a solution. In filming this event we will be able to ensure all families have access and that children experience the joy of participating in a production. Unfortunately the Clocktower is unable to accommodate requests in Term 4. Please look out for further information in the coming weeks.

Feast of Our Lady’s Assumption

This coming Sunday, 15th August, marks one of the few remaining Holy Days of Obligation on the liturgical calendar; the Feast of Our Lady’s Assumption. This feast day dates back to the early Christians in around the third century and reminds us that Mary is the perfect model of Christian discipleship for us. On Sunday, Catholic communities around the world will honour Mary the Mother of God, under many different titles. For us here in Australia as our country’s aptron, and in particular as patron of our parish and school, we acknowledge and honour Mary as Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Help of Christians. In some countries around the world, Mary will be honoured with parades and festivals and in fact in some countries a public holiday is held on the Feast of the Assumption. Historically, little is known about Mary, a simple and faithful Jewish woman from the small village of Nazareth in the north of Palestine, who was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. We know that after the resurrection, Mary spent time with some of the Apostles continuing to spread the teachings and messages of Jesus. She spent the remaining years in Ephesus, now modern day Turkey near the Greek border. The house that Mary is believed to have resided in has become a popular place of Christian pilgrimage in recent years. It is in Luke’s Gospel that Mary receives the most attention. As the audience Luke was writing for were Gentiles who had joined Christian communities around the Mediteranian Sea. Luke is writing for the oppressed, women, slaves, prisoners, those without a voice and the most vulnerable in society. As such he highlights the important role Mary

played in nurturing Jesus, that she often accompanied him in his ministry and was there at the foot of the cross in his last hours of life. On this Feast of the Assumption, may we aspire to be more like Mary, who very humbly and simply, shows us how to respond to the call of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel, to live more justly and follow in his way. This clip below is a virtual tour of the basilica that now stands upon what is believed to be where Mary resided in her home village of Nathareth. During this challenging time away from school and our friends, a healthy way to reflect and remain positive is to think of things we are grateful for in our life. Click on the link to complete the provided Google Form and share 3 gratitudes. Next week we will create a ‘Wordle’ which will highlight all the things in our life that we are grateful for and blessed by. Read next week’s newsletter to see our ‘Wordle’ result! Storytime Reflection: What is out your

window?

Let’s revisit the special story ‘Windows’ by Patrick Guest and Jonathan Bentley. Click on the link and reflect on our own special world today. Book Week

We are planning for a Book Week Parade on Friday 27th August. There will be a character dress up assembly at 9.00 a.m for students on the day. We expect that parents will not be permitted on site so it is probable this will be an internal school event, without a parent audience. Please encourage your child to have fun and dress up as a favourite book character or dress up in either a costume related to the theme ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’ on this date. All classes will also engage in Book Week activities during library sessions. Activities will be focused on books nominated for 2021 Children’s Book Council of Australia awards. Reminder School Fees

A reminder the FINAL school fee instalment of $785 per family is due by 23/08/21. Should you be experiencing financial hardship please contact the office on 8388 5900 so that we may discuss a mutually suitable repayment plan. Thank you, Debbie Ceravolo BURSAR
