By promoting earlier mobility, we can help those recovering from stroke or spinal cord injury get back on their feet sooner. At the same time, we can reduce the physical strain on therapists and the likelihood of injury during rehabilitation sessions. We designed EksoGT™ for use in clinical environments. When it’s incorporated into a therapeutic practice, the impact can be profound: improved patient outcomes, improved operational efficiencies, and a reputation in the medical and patient communities for a willingness to embrace the latest, and the best, tools available. From a young age Russ DeLonzor knew he wanted to do something to help people. His brother had a spinal cord injury in a bridge jumping accident at the age of 16 and Russ spent his youth figuring out ways to modify and adapt things so his brother could participate in activi- ties with his friends. Russ was advising at UC Berkeley when he first learned about Ekso Bionics. He ended up “cold calling Nathan Harding off of LinkedIn because he wanted to see if he could help and be a part of the team”. Russ joined Ekso Bionics in October 2015 and brings 25 years of medical device experience with him. Mr. DeLonzor holds an MBA and earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Sacramento. His experience and education only benefit his current position as Vice President of Operations. In this short time, Russ has started a new mobility project and helped streamline collaboration between the manufacturing, engineering and regulatory departments. When asked what he believes in most about Ekso, DeLonzor replies, “Ekso has the best people and the best technology to improve the lives of people living with disabilities and augment the capability of others. We are unique because we have developed a technology platform that can help such a broad range of people—from medical, industrial, military, and even more applications later down the line.” Russ believes that the biggest challenge for Ekso Bionics will be moving from early adopters to becoming standard of care. Developing clinical evidence and expanding our FDA indications for use will help the company do just that. When Russ isn’t helping to change the world you can find him on the water, blaring Boston, boating with family and friends. Native to the Bay Area, DeLonzor knows his way around all of the good spots! His family enjoys boating, wake boarding and camping. Additional fun facts about Russ are: he met his wife at an ice cream parlor in Napa 35 years ago and he still enjoys their favorite praline pecan ice cream; that he tries to burn off with a 5 mile run at Point Richmond every morning. Plus he gets to carpool with his son to work. Russ’ dedication and experience are just what Ekso needs for the next phase of innovation. Together we’re #movingasone The first time you meet her, you know you’re in the presence of someone special. Love at first grad project Born and raised in Texas, Katie, got her start with Ekso Bionics in the early days as a grad student. “It’s a hard question” Katherine says after being asked how long she’s been with Ekso. “I started collaborating with them on a grant when they were Berkeley Bionics at UC Berkeley and about four years later, they hired me.” It’s true, Katie has been with Ekso almost since the beginning and is truly a pillar of knowledge in the robotics field. She always pictured herself working in space exploration robotics, but when presented with the opportunity to work on robotics for stroke rehabilitation from Professor Homayoon Kazerooni, she jumped and ‘never looked back’. “I have always been driven to be a part of something that has the ability to make people’s lives better” said Katie. Not only was she apart of it, she is a creator. Katie did the original work on the human machine interface that developed into what is now known as ProStep in the EksoGT™ interface. ProStep is how the user initiates the step based on body positioning. It gives the user a more fluid and natural step and allows them to be in control of their own walk. When asked what she believes in most about Ekso, she confidentially replies “Our mission is to help people live healthier, happier and more productive lives. It’s undeniable that we have assembled an amazing team that is so passionate about our message; that is the key to our success.” The woman behind the engineering An avid outdoor woman, you can find Katie training for her next triathlon, trail running or hiking when she’s not at work. However, don’t be surprised if you find her jamming on her bagpipes either. You read that right, bagpipes! Katie is a member of the Piedmont Highlanders Drums & Pipes and has performed in numerous parades. Her other hobbies? Helping run programs for young girls in summer engineering intern programs, teaching Robots for Rehabilitation classes at St. Mary’s College of California, organizing the intern program at Ekso Bionics and being the mastermind behind Grilled Beasts (the monthly potluck held at HQ). If you think she’s Wonder Woman, she pretty much is. Coincidentally when I asked her which movie she would star in if given the opportunity, it was the same- Wonder Woman, as the main character or a kick butt Amazon woman! Other fun facts about Katie go something like this: Her favorite book is either Moloka’i or The Century Trilogy by Ken Follett, her guilty food pleasure is queso (Hey, she’s from Texas!) and if she could vacation anywhere it would be a backpacking trip around Ireland and Scotland. I’m pretty sure there would be some sweet jam sessions along the way! After spending a few winters in a wheelchair up in CT, I decided it was time to relocate back home to south Florida where it’s flat and sunny, to finish my degree in Marketing and International business. I currently attend Florida International University and will be graduating this December. I did my rehab in CT at Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford, CT. I spent two months in inpatient rehab learning the ins and outs of my SCI. I started walking in leg braces in therapy and continue to do so. Ekso Bionics exoskeletons are engineered for patients and therapists alike.

His brother had a spinal cord injury in a bridge jumping accident at the age of 16 and Russ spent his youth figuring out ways to modify and adapt things so his brother could participate in activi-ties with his friends.
