COMMVAULT SOFTWARE
In previous versions of our software, Commvault provided installation
files and service pack updates in separate installation packages (also
called installation media).
In version 11, Commvault provides installation files and service pack
updates in a single installation package. When you download agents,
tools, or other software, the service pack updates that are associated
with the software are also downloaded.
You can download the Commvault software by using one of the
following resources:
Download Manager (for Windows or UNIX computers)
CommCell Console
A new version of the Commvault software is released every service pack
(SP2, SP3, and so on). When a new service pack is available, Commvault
releases a new version of the Download Manager and displays the new
service pack version in the download software options of the CommCell
Console.
The software that you download through the Download Manager or
CommCell Console is for a specific service pack version. We recommend
that you always download the latest service pack version. If you need to
download software from older service pack versions, consider the
following requirements:
For downloads using the Download Manager, obtain the version of
the Download Manager that corresponds with the service pack
version that you need. For example, to obtain the Download
Manager for SP3, you must download the V11 SP3 Media Kit and
Service Pack. For instructions, see Downloading Installation Media.
For downloads using the CommCell Console, you can only
download the software that matches or is later than the service
pack version that is installed on the CommServe computer.
If you do not plan to download the software, you can perform
installation and upgrade operations directly from the Download Manager.
For more information, see Download Manager.
Commvault now provides
installation files and
service pack updates in a
single installation
package.

NEW EXCHANGE ARCHIVING AGENT: EXCHANGE MAILBOX AGENT – EARLY RELEASE FEATURE
The Exchange Mailbox Agent is a comprehensive solution that
incorporates separate archiving and cleanup operations. You can move
mailbox messages to secondary storage and use these messages as an
archive copy. Cleanup jobs create stubs on the production storage. The
stubs point to the messages that were moved as part of the archiving
and cleanup operations. The archived messages are available for quick
and easy retrieval by administrators and end users.
With the Exchange Mailbox Agent, content is managed at the user level,
rather than at the subclient level. Users are contained within a single
subclient where you can assign discrete Exchange policies at the user,
database, and user group levels. This eliminates the need to manage
load balancing across multiple subclients.
KEY FEATURES
The Exchange Mailbox Agent is easy to configure because all data
is associated with one virtual client, which makes it simple to scale
your data protection system horizontally. As your business needs
grow, you can add or remove physical clients at any time without
any disruption.
Metadata (From, To, Subject, receive time, size, and so on) is
indexed, which allows you to retrieve data quickly. Content
indexing indexes entire messages.
Multistreaming means that archiving, cleanup, and restore jobs can
run in parallel and this increases throughput. In addition, each job
type can run in multiple streams.

BLOCK LEVEL BROWSE FOR VM FILE RECOVERY – EARLY RELEASE FEATURE
Block level browse enables users to browse and recover files without
requiring metadata collection during backup. This feature uses a block
level driver to mount a pseudo disk on the MediaAgent being used for
browse and restore operations. The pseudo disk is used to get file
system information, enabling browse and restore operations to read
directly from stored backup data, without relying on content indexing.
For Linux-based hypervisors that support file recovery, you can convert a
Linux MediaAgent to a File Recovery Enabler for Linux to enable Live
Browse and file recovery operations for VMs with UNIX file systems.
Block level browse replaces 3dfs Live Browse as the underlying

SUPPORT FOR VMWARE VIRTUAL VOLUME (VVOL) – EARLY RELEASE FEATURE
VMware Virtual Volumes (VVols) provide a logical view of virtual machine
storage. The Virtual Server Agent (VSA) supports IntelliSnap backups
with VVol for any hardware storage arrays that provide VVol support, as
well as IntelliSnap backups for virtual machines that reside on Virtual
SAN (VSAN) storage that includes VVols.
The VSA leverages VMware software snapshots to perform more efficient
and granular IntelliSnap backups of VVols that are associated with a
virtual machine. By using a software snapshot, the VSA reads data
directly from storage and limits the data captured in the snapshot to the
data for the targeted virtual machine. Backup, backup copy, retention,
revert, browse, and VM recovery operations can address storage for
each virtual machine, eliminating the need to create and manage
snapshots for each datastore that contains virtual machine data.

OPTIMIZED REPLICATION FOR OSDP C-MODE
Optimized Replication for OSDP C-Mode delivers a much more efficient
and less time consuming method of replication than reading the entire
source volume. The feature achieves this efficiency by using a driver that
monitors the source volume continuously to determine which blocks
have changed. Then, only the changed blocks are replicated.
Optimized Replication for OSDP C-Mode applies to UNIX and Windows
file system volumes that are replicated to a NetApp C-Mode filer.
