I hope everyone was prepared and was not lulled by the non-seasonal weather we had up unl December 12 th . 2017 was another busy year, much busier than the previous year. I hope many of you, your family and friends were able to visit the Club and enjoy the many events that the Club had to offer during 2017. We have had many successful events, too many to menon, but I am very happy to report that the GCC has achieved a number of milestones this past year; We had the most successful 2-day Oktoberfest to date Our 3-day Christkindl Market aendance surpassed all previous aendance records Our Special Events Kaffeeklatsch events have become sold out events to the point we have to add addional tables on a regular basis. At this me, I would like to highlight one of our newer events, our 2 nd annual Roast Beef Fundraising Dinner and silent aucon. Our special guest speaker, the German Consul General Mr. Fahrenholtz, presented an interesng and enlightening speech about future German business interests in the City of London. This event would not have been possible without the hard work of our Board members, Friedhelm Hoffman (did all the food preparaon) and his helpers Ricardo Hoffmann, Ruth Peterson, Jean Jacobi and Louise Kopp from his local church as well as Chrisne Heinemann-Gijzen and the Seniors Group. As you all know the Club can no longer depend on the lucrave revenue generang events from days of yore. Our weekly Saturday night dance, Karnival, Hawaiian Night, Reeperbahn Dance and other well aended events are no longer offered due to an extreme drop in aendance. So, we have to find other programs and events that aract more patrons on a regular basis. I hope many of you were able to aend our GCC Christmas Concert on the 17 th with our Chor Lyra performing many songs for this fesve me of the year. I am sure you enjoyed all that our Club offered on this day. Our last event, as you may already know, is our New Years Eve celebraon. This is our last major event for 2017 and I hope that you will take the me to aend and help us “ring” in the New Year 2018 with your family and friends and enjoy the music of the Edelweis Trio. Included in the price of admission are party favors, champagne toast and a delicious cold buffet. Please be aware that ckets must be purchased in advance and walk-ins will not be accepted. With the lean months of January and February soon upon us I invite you all to come to the Club during our business hours, aend our special events and support us any way you can. January 2018

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

Dear members and friends of the German Canadian Club, Winter has arrived and not with a whisper but a roar. I hope everyone was prepared and was not lulled by the non-seasonal weather we had up until December 12th. 2017 was another busy year, much busier than the previous year. I hope many of you, your family and friends were able to visit the Club and enjoy the many events that the Club had to offer during 2017. We have had many successful events, too many to mention, but I am very happy to report that the GCC has achieved a number of milestones this past year; We had the most successful 2-day Oktoberfest to date Our 3-day Christkindl Market attendance surpassed all previous attendance records Our Special Events Kaffeeklatsch events have become sold out events to the point we have to add additional

tables on a regular basis. At this time, I would like to highlight one of our newer events, our 2nd annual Roast Beef Fundraising Dinner and silent auction. Our special guest speaker, the German Consul General Mr. Fahrenholtz, presented an interesting and enlightening speech about future German business interests in the City of London. This event would not have been possible without the hard work of our Board members, Friedhelm Hoffman (did all the food preparation) and his helpers Ricardo Hoffmann, Ruth Peterson, Jean Jacobi and Louise Kopp from his local church as well as Christine Heinemann-Gijzen and the Seniors Group. As you all know the Club can no longer depend on the lucrative revenue generating events from days of yore. Our weekly Saturday night dance, Karnival, Hawaiian Night, Reeperbahn Dance and other well attended events are no longer offered due to an extreme drop in attendance. So, we have to find other programs and events that attract more patrons on a regular basis. I hope many of you were able to attend our GCC Christmas Concert on the 17th with our Chor Lyra performing many songs for this festive time of the year. I am sure you enjoyed all that our Club offered on this day. Our last event, as you may already know, is our New Years Eve celebration. This is our last major event for 2017 and I hope that you will take the time to attend and help us “ring” in the New Year 2018 with your family and friends and enjoy the music of the Edelweis Trio. Included in the price of admission are party favors, champagne toast and a delicious cold buffet. Please be aware that tickets must be purchased in advance and walk-ins will not be accepted.
