TTT Showing January 14th & 15th 2011
Wow…. what a month it’s been and what a better way to start
the year with a TTT win for Gisborne in the Showing at Geelong on
14th & 15th January, 2011. Carrying on from their success at TTT
Dressage where they placed 4th, the girls pulled out the big guns
amongst the professionals to win this fabulous event out of 82
teams on the day.
Led and might we say guided by club secretary and resident
show queen, Karen Middlebrook on My Haven Windancer
(Danni), other teams members were Sarah Bridge & River Park
Mason (Mason), Anneliese Shortt & Avella di Marcello (Felix) and
Bianca Veneziano & Monarch Discovery(Caspar). All the girls
worked hard on the day each winning and placing in events.
Karen, Bianca and Anna each won a reserve championship in
their respective sections and Anna also took home Reserve
Highpoint.

As Karen was quoted as saying ‘Not a bad effort for a show
queen, a dressage diva, a track rider and a nana’. Personally as
editor and the team member who is the acclaimed ‘nana’ of the
group, we all had a fabulous day and the event put on by the
Bulla girls was first class.
Other GDARC stars on the day were Gillian Leach and Dalmally
Park Weltstar (Ricky) and Kristie Bloem on Mystic Affair – both girls
riding in composite teams.
It’s been a general consensus from the committee that we as a
club will host the TTT Showing next year and this can only be done
with everyone in the club helping out to make it a show stopping
event. Stay tuned!
TTT Report by Karen Middlebrook
Bulla ARC did a fabulous job of hosting TTT showing. This is the first
time the event has been hosted at Royal Geelong show grounds
and a first with the event held over 2 days. The other difference
they provided was the program. Instead of classes being split into
age groups and/or height, all classes were based on height of the
horse. For someone who has a pony who is horse shy this was
fantastic!! No big nasty hacks to scare the midget.
With it being over 2 days I had the opportunity to not only
participate but to judge. I managed to sneak a peak at all
members from GDARC over the 2 days of competition (yes Gillian. I
could spy you in your ring even when judging at the other end...I
saw you with a 3rd in SOP!!)
Must say all our members were beautifully turned out and did a
fabulous job. Everyone placed in several classes on the day and
we managed a place in every event on offer...shows the versatility
of GDARC riders.
Anna with her gimpy hand in a cast rode superbly to gain Reserve
Highpoint at only her 2nd show. Her first introduction was Doongala
the week prior in the pouring rain..that’s dedication to riding or is
that insanity??!! Felix is a born show princess and lapped up the
attention. All I can say is thank goodness for mounting blocks to
enable me to plait & present him. No way can I stretch that far.
Gillian and Ricky looking
sharp! They came 9th
overall in their section, a
great result for only
competing in 3 events.
-
Bianca & Casper, Sarah & Mason and myself with Danni managed
a win in the best educated classes....Anna was 2nd. Bianca then
turned around and won the pleasure class at level 1. No mean feat
indeed when the class prior Casper was executing flying changes,
hand gallops and walk pirouettes to calmly go around with his nose
near the ground.
Sarah & Mason had some very stiff competition in level 2...they're
first attempt at this level and only 2nd or 3rd time in the show
ring...this is despite Mason having a 'holiday' during the year to
recuperate from an injury. And of course Sarah having enforced
time out of the saddle after her own injury at work.
Kristie and Mystic had very strong competition in level 3B where
they competed with Anna...although different events as they are
opposite ends of the scale when it comes to height. Don’t know
how Kristie managed to prepare for the event having her
engagement party in lead up time and also managing to injure her
foot. Hmmm...do you see a pattern among our riders...all maimed!!!
Five of us rode on Saturday with Gillian being the sole rep on
Sunday. To say I was surprised on Sunday morning when I saw us
leading with 48 points was an understatement. However there were
several teams in hot pursuit with the 5th placed riders from indigo (I
did hear a comment..you'd better win cos we don’t want to go
back to Albury) who had 2 riders competing on Sunday. I did send Anna a text to inform her of our position but never
thought we would win....so at the end of judging I packed up and
headed home with my little grey friend.
Judging at level 2 was great. Some beautiful horses and rider
combinations made it a difficult job to choose my class winners. I
love to set interesting workouts and challenge the riders at higher
levels, even the level 4 & 5s didn’t escape at Doongala the week
prior...nothing difficult but made them think. Amazing how a canter
strike off on the straight sorts them out or a turn on the forehand in
best educated class.
Felix modeling the winning
team’s rug and garland-
what a spunk!
-
Our win wasn’t straight forward. Rich River challenged the result
believing they had won by 10 points, not lost by 1. Unfortunately for
them but fortunately for us there wasn’t a mistake made. They had
combined all 4 rider results and TTT is based on the best 3 in a team.
The first 3 teams had 1 point separating them. 2 points between 3rd
& 4th with 4th & 5th decided on a count back. Some of the closest
competition in a number of years.
It’s fantastic to be associated with a club which has now won this
discipline on two occasions and the first time I have ridden in a
winning team with GDARC. Wonderful to win with the club I have
been associated with for 13 years, 8 of them as a member of the
Committee.
My best memory from the weekend won’t be the ribbons or
trophies….it is the fact that I shared this with three wonderful riders
whom I’m glad to call my friends. Thank you Anna, Bianca and
Sarah.
‘BOOTY-LICIOUS!’
Welcome New Members
Welcome this month to Kristy Koch, I don’t think I got around to it
last month. Our club is growing in strength which is fabulous, so
when you see a fellow GDARC out in uniform, stop and make the
effort to introduce yourself.

TTT CT 2012 at Elcho Park, Lara
Great venue approx 1 hour from Gisborne.
Where are all our intrepid jumpers????
Karen has received only one entry for TTT CTD and has been
advised by another 2 members they are going to compete but nothing as yet.
If you want to compete then please send your entry form to
Karen at home and pay your entry fees.
The event is being held at Lara on 24/25 March and entries close
25 February
Volunteers are needed per team so if you're not riding but would
like to help or maybe you have recently competed at TTT comps
but not yet volunteered to help out a team member...your
assistance is greatly appreciated.
TTT Horse Trials
TTT HT – 19th, 20th May. We will try to get a couple of training days
up and running prior to this event. Get in your entries as soon as
possible.
Upcoming Rallies and Visiting Superstars
With the increasing cost of instructors the committee has made a decision to increase rally fees from 1 May 2012. Our current fee
structure hasn’t increased in 5 years and while it is a slight
increase it still provides fabulous value for money.
The new costs will be:
1 lesson - $35
2 lessons per rally - $60
3 lessons per rally - $90
Private lessons (subject to availability) will be 45 mins. The cost will
depend on the instructor providing the lesson.
However an indication would be $60 to $100. Please note this
may be more, it would depend what the instructor charges for
the lesson.
Fees for the hire of indoor arenas will be added to the rally fee where applicable. For the past 12 months the club has run at a
loss on rally days. Rather than see our hard working funds
continue to dissipate, the hard decision was made.
We hope all members understand the need for the new structure.
When booking in for a rally lesson, please make sure you get your
form into Lucy as soon as possible.

Rider’s Profile
The Rider’s Profile each month is a great way to get to know a bit
more about your club members. Please keep this interesting
section going by contacting Anna on [email protected] for
a ‘rider profile’ form and taking ten minutes to fill it in.
As editor, I am looking for contributions to keep this section as well
as the recipe column going so I am donating a wonderful prize of a SodaStream machine and syrups for one lucky provider to these
two columns throughout the year. At the end of the year, names
will be put into a hat and you could win this machine & syrups worth $110.
Like our current contributors
this year, you could also be in
the running to win this
fabulous machine if you got
your pens out of your
pockets!

WELCOME FUTURE PONY CLUBBERS!
Welcome to pending new babies for Michelle Bevan and Marion
Copping. With both girls expecting a week apart, the GDARC stork
has been rather busy, that or we’ve had a few power outs late last
year in the Altona North area………
Certainly strange things are happening. When I asked Marion for
her favourite recipe she sent me back a packet berry muffin recipe
with coconut milk substituted for plain and instructions to eat the
entire lot followed by a pizza and a lime thick shake, yup Marion is
having a baby!
Congratulations to Elle for her wedding this
weekend, we all know what a stunning bride you’ll be and may the sun
shine upon you all day!

Recipe of the month – Pavlova
Our very own Club President Lucy is embracing all things summer
with this gorgeous Pavlova which according to Lucy is uber easy to
make. Lucky Lucy gets a ticket into the SodaStream draw for her
recipe!
PAVLOVA Lucy Nicholson
3-4 egg whites (large eggs)
170g caster sugar
½ tsp vanilla essence
½ tsp vinegar
2-3 level tsps cornflour
½ pint double cream, whipped fruit for filling - I prefer sliced peaches, raspberries and cubed kiwi
Baking parchment
Large square baking tray
Oven temperature: cool (150 Celsius)
Beat egg whites till very stiff, then beat in the sugar, half at a time.
Beat in the vanilla essence, vinegar and cornflour. Place
parchment on baking tray. Spread the meringue in a circle on the
parchment piling it up round the edges to form a case. Bake in the
centre of the oven for about an hour, till firm. Leave till cool, then
carefully remove the paper. Place the meringue case on a flat
serving plate, pile in the whipped cream and arrange the fruit.
Eat immediately and PAV off!!
